Avenger - 01/28/14 04:14 AM

I'm running into a problem I am hoping you guys can help me with. I am building a tube chassis car with a 98 Dodge Avenger body. I have a fiberglass hood that needs to be cut down to fit from Harry's Glass. My problem is I can't find the specs anywhere on how far apart the top front edges are on the front fenders. If someone has an Avenger, between model years 95-00, if you wouldn't mind measuring those front fender corners, I would really appreciate it... This is driving me nuts.

I would wait until you get the front end mouted on it before fitting the hood I had to fit my first two hoods on my Duster, they where the race weight and a little wider than my stock steel fenders where I recently replaced the cowl hood on my current car, 1970 Cuda tube chassis car with a tunnel ram scoop one piece race weight hood from Unlimited Fibreglas, it fit right on with minimal prepping

That is actually what I am trying to do - is get the fenders in the proper location. Again this is a chassis car, so there is no front structure to the car at all. The first thing I need to do is get the front of the fenders at their proper location. Then I can center it on the chassis, as there is no structural support for the front bumper. Basically I will be mounting the front end the same way you would mount a fiberglass nose on a chassis car. Then when that part is set up I can trim the hood and fit it properly. I can probably get pretty close on the measurement by how close of a fit the front fenders are to the front of the doors, but I would just as soon get it exact as I can. If one thing isn't right, it just seems to snowball. So anybody's help would be much appreciated.

96 Avenger at the very tip of the front is 52 inches.. did you build your chassis from scratch or did you buy a chassis kit??

Thank you

It was a chassis kit. A friend of mine built this chassis a few years back and the car had been sitting ever since, unfinished and now I am trying to finish it. Of course I have no good information on how to attach the front end. So this takes a lot of the guess work out of it. Thank you very much!

It is an Alston chassis but I would recommend that you double-check and see what it will certify to. Mine was only good to 8.50. I'm adding bars to the funny car cage and the main chassis so that it will cert at 7.50. Thanks again for your help. I was happy to see that I was only a 1/4" off.

I have a complete Alston kit here at my house that is mostly welded up. For an Avenger, make someone a smoking deal. Moly of course with most everything mounted. We decided to have someone build us a new chassis. It is under this
