SLICKS....................... - 01/27/14 08:52 PM

Decided to step up and put a real tire on Thumper so, what`s the best slick in a 29" size on a 10" rim for a 3050 lb. BB car and I will street drive it...........thankxxx.

Re: SLICKS....................... - 01/27/14 09:08 PM

I assume you will keep the same tires on it all the
time... last time I heard the QTP was the best for
traction but have a somewhat shorter life span(which
is to be expected on a softer tire)

Buy the biggest ones that will fit on your car

I run those now but they are not a slick and a friend w/an 8.50 car went 1.34 60 ft. on these then went 1.23 on a et slick so that`s why I feel my car would improve plus I`m gettin back into street racing so I can make money instead of pay..............

I sold my 12" rims like a fool cos they rubbed and I know there`s an ideal tire to rim width ratio but feel I can get it done w/the 10" rims w/a real tire........

Dont feel that because he got a improvement that you
should see any... I'm betting he has a better suspension
and better shocks.. so your not looking at apples to apples...
how long have your tires been on the car and what
was the best 60' when they were new

Re: SLICKS....................... - 01/27/14 09:24 PM

If you plan to run a true "slick".....and in that size range, there is ONE answer M/T. Put the 29.5 W on it, if it will fit. If not, use the 29.5 S (stiff sidewall). NO company has done more small tire development than M/T

A QTP will NOT 60ft as hard as a real slick, because the carcass is REALLY soft and tends to wad up, to make the treaded tire work better. The BEST 60ft on a treaded tire, will be a drag radial, but they are too hit and miss on a sketchy track and likely useless on the street most of the time

Re: SLICKS....................... - 01/27/14 09:26 PM

Tires are about 2 years old and my sig was a 1.39 but my best at Irwindale was 1.36`s back to back and runnin 6.22`s before I freshoned it up. Now that my shocks are verticle it works WAY better on the street..........

Ya Monte several locals run that tire w/great success so maybe that`s the answer then we will see how the 8 3/4 holds up..........

My Valiant has M/T 29.5 11.5 on a ten inch rim. Been 1.27 on them running hi fives in the 1/8. Mine are not W or Stiff.
I'm having trouble holding the front end down cause its trying to hook so hard.

It puts on a show when you let go!

Re: SLICKS....................... - 01/28/14 01:14 AM

I have run the M/T on the Dart and switched to the Hoosiers and now a BIG fan of them. Better and more consistent 60'. In talking to them before I ordered, I was thinking of the radials and they talked me out of them. Shorter life but will perform better. Given my application they suggested I didn't need the radial slick.

If my wheels/tires fit on your car your welcome to make a pass or two to see what you think.

Last trip down south this past fall I couldn't believe how many guys were running Hoosiers. I thought someone must be giving them away, probably 2/3rds running them if not more. Anything from (1/8th mile) high 7 second to mid 5 second cars and a bit quicker.

I live down south Hoosier 18192 10.5

Re: SLICKS....................... - 01/28/14 02:18 AM

Dom I too have changed to a hoosier 29/10.5w/15 most of the time on my Dart.

This tire is the same size as a QTP 29/13.5/15. For me no real et change, but 60' is a little more consistant and reaction time is a little quicker and sidewalls have lasted longer. Still like my QTPs when I want the "Its just a street car" look.

Damn, now I`m confused........... Thankxxx for the offer but I don`t plan on racing at a track anytime soon.............

Re: SLICKS....................... - 01/28/14 03:54 AM

Offer is open if you change your mind. My car is parked waiting on my engine to get back, so won't be running it until mid March. All of Feb is open for ya.

Re: SLICKS....................... - 01/28/14 04:12 AM

Don't know if it's still true after all these years, but I saw some tests a ways back where M/T ET Streets were pulling virtually identical times to their ET Drag counterparts. If you still need a DOT-legal tire, this might be something to consider...

Thankxxx again but a buddy of mine has some coin he wants to spend on me and bring to the streets for betting so he`s buyin and I`m not too proud to oblige. Brad, I tried the et-streets and for some reason my car didn`t like em but that was before my leaf mod so who knows plus the cops up here are cool about slicks on the street..........

Is there any outlaw tire close to your size?
I put hoosier 26 8.5 on my barracuda and broke my tranny from the *!,€}€ traction.

Re: SLICKS....................... - 01/30/14 08:15 PM

If you can fit it, check out a phoenix ph362.Its a little bigger all around than the m\t's but has a pretty stiff sidewall, even though its not listed as such.I switched to this tire from the standard m/t and saw nearly .03 reduction in reaction time.I attribute that to the stiffer sidewall.Oh and they hook killer too, a little better than the mickeys, imo.

I`ve heard good things about that brand also.........

Re: SLICKS....................... - 01/30/14 10:10 PM

From what I've seen they're the widest tire that is designed for a 10" wheel.11.8" tread width.

Listen to Monte. M/T 29.5x10.5...get the W if you have room. If not, get the S (stiff sidewall).

Re: SLICKS....................... - 01/30/14 10:27 PM

Maybe there`s something to that design because years ago the fatter wheel and narrow tire was the sheight.........

I just ordered the 3062s yesterday hoping to gain a little lip clearance and a little weight use to run the w witch is a good tire but i'm starting to ? the sidewalls on them my slicks or old is there a physical way to check sidewalls on slicks see guys pushing on quarter panels side to side is that the way they check them........

Re: SLICKS....................... - 05/15/14 02:29 PM

M/T makes a Pro Drag Radial instead of the 2 full lines all the way around the tire they are staggered around the tire. These are what most of the Fast 275 Drag Radial guys around here are running.

PS Just saw where you said Drag Slicks,if you are going to run off road only drag slicks not DOT,many swear by M/T but I have found GoodYear to be the best at least for my use.

Kevin from Unlimited hooked me up w/a pair of 29.5 10.5x15-S lightly used slicks yesturday for free from a fellow N.M.C.A. racer who thaught they were done but found leaky shocks. They look damn near new so on they go for a Nova and Vette rematch and two more Chevys after that. Never been on a real slick w/this motor so now we`ll and hope the 8 3/4 holds up...........

Mickey`s website says you can run higher pressures so what are you guys running w/these.............thankxxx..........
