Stock K Frame Weight Loss? - 01/23/14 04:13 AM

How many pounds can I remove from my K-Frame? It weighs 32.2 pounds at the moment.

As much as you want Are you feeling lucky All kidding aside, I have seen some of them drilled full of large holes, front, back, top and bottom I had a CAP tubular K member for stock steering and torsion bars for the early,1963 to 1966 A bodys, it weighed 23 lbs, my stock one weighed 25 lbs. I'm sure the later A bodys are a little bit heavier, there bigger (I have both)

Cut the flanges, engine mounts, extra bracing for the steering gear and the center leaving about 2". Weld it all up. Patch the holes to look good. Add a tube to brace the steering mount. Lose 18 lbs.

I'm doing the same thing to mine.... I didn't weigh it before... I don't care how much I actually loose. I just like the fact that it will be lighter!!

Is that body putty?

Be interesting if it flexes enough over time to flake and be a structural load indicator.

It looks nice.

The corners were easy. I hole sawed the K before it was cut out. Yes it's bondoed. This is the second one done this way. The other one is 10 tears old, no cracks.
