428 R3 Block Build

428 R3 Block Build - 01/06/14 05:56 AM

We have a cool small block build going on, R block, 4.125 Bore, 4"crank, Indy 360 Heads CNC ported, solid roller, 14 to 1 compression etc. Had to clearance block for the new comp lifter with the inside tie bars and we bushed it due to the lifter uncovering the oil galley at lift. Before picture

I would like to know as well. Not questioning. Just getting bad ideas for later down the road!

Cometic gasket mls head gasket. It's the same as a stock sb mopar engine now. You have never seen a sb mopar with compression?

Re: 428 R3 Block Build - 01/07/14 12:59 AM

10 1/2" head studs will hold just fine.

With 7/16"in the original 10 the extra 8 3/8 bolts are necessary.

It appears a lot of clean up machining could be done on this block.

I ran my 416 at 14:1 with cometics and ARP studs with no problems, it is still running great for the new owner after 4 years and around 500 or so passes.

Pete, looks like a good candidate for a billet timing cover. I have a batch of parts in process at the moment.

Andy, what heads are on that blue engine?

Re: 428 R3 Block Build - 01/12/14 08:35 PM

W2 heads. They are unused W2 heads that still have their original boxes. I think the label has a 1977 date on it.

Out of curiosity is that a pn# p5153579 race block. I have that has the same magnum lifter machining and it has that # on driver side front of the block, which should have started life as a basically finished 318 mag configuration
