Whats your car weigh? How fast is it? Is it streetable? - 12/27/13 08:59 PM

Just curious as to what some of your cars weigh relative to the E.T's. I know there's been a lot of talk about weight savings lately and I was just curious to see how those weight savings relate to E.T and how streetable the cars are respectively.

Re: Whats your car weigh? How fast is it? Is it streetable? - 12/27/13 09:22 PM

4025# after working hard to remove weight from it.

10.60s @ 128 mph last time out in Sacramento. Best of 10.61 @ 133 mph with 1.75 60' numbers at Speedworld (RIP). I've been working on the launch since then and got it down to a best of 1.43 60' in Tucson. (sig photo from Tucson) I just need to get it to launch like that - then turn the boost back up to see what it will do. (and hopefully not break it)

It still has all the creature comforts it came with from the factory - AC, PS, Stereo... you know the regular stuff. Absolutely perfectly streetable other than the cab being a little tight for my 6'2" frame and having room for the rollbar behind the seat. Mainly a street cruiser that goes to the track when possible.

I posted on the other weight thread earlier, but I'll double up:
Last time I weighed my Satellite with the old 383, it weighed 3600 (3775 with my 175 aboard). Since then: New motor w/ alum. heads and alum waterpump & housing. New wheels are a lot lighter than the steelies that it used to run on and it now runs mono-leafs. I'm guessing it tips in at just over 3500 now (???).

Best ET is in the sig, and it has run within a tenth of that the last dozen or so times down the track (which for me covers 2 years). I have not had much tuning time with it though, as every time I've been to the track in the past two years, I've entered races and had 2 hits, then had to dial in for eliminations. I think there's a lot left to find with some jetting work. It is a complete street car; has full exhaust, working heater, wipers, windows, horn, stock full interior, ect.... It is typically driven to and from the track. Last driven: YESTERDAY!

I built my 1971 Duster to be raced on pump gas on the streets of south east L.A.,that didn't happen due to health issues The car weighed 3450 lbs with me in it with two batterys and a full tank of fuel, it is a ladder bar coilover rear suspension car with a 400 stroker motor, 518 C.I., lader bars and coil overs, three inch exhaust to the rear bumper, full interior and so on. It has ran 9.993 at 134.6 MPH on Oregon non ethanol 91 octane pump gas through the exhaust with the air cleaner on To get the most you can out of any combination you need to make every part from the front bumper bolts to the rear bumper bolts work the best you can get them to, motor, converter, tranny, exhaust, ignition, fuel delivery, front and rear suspension and so on Test, test and then tests some more Two adages come to mind on cars and going fast, big is best, motor, tires exhaust, and light is right in every part, crankshafts, pistons wrist pins and rods, wheels and tires, total weight and so on

My 68 Barracuda wieghs 3500lbs with 230lbs of driver in it. Its been an 11.18@120.5 with a 360 and is very streetable, I don't even own a trailer. If I had known it was going to be so nice today I would have driven it to work.

I am in the mid 10's with a mild Hemi even with my ignition issue...Car weighs 3250lbs...When I get an all aluminum 604 built, it will run a little quicker I would think..Very streetable. I drove it to a car show this year, and down to the shop a bunch and to work one time...Neighbors are still complaining about that.

As you would expect its best times have been in sea level air. I think once I finish tweaking it should run .20s and .30s in bad air.
11:1 .040 over 360
Stage II Shady Dell Edelbrock RPMs with 2.05 intake valves
Solid Roller 258@.050 .650ish lift IIRC
Erson Roller Rockers
Gasket matched Victor?(not the tallest one)
Holley 830
TA 4500 8" converter
727
3.91 gears
TTI Headers with a full exhaust system.

Its a big cam and it likes to idle fast(1400 out of gear) but it drives really good on the street. Its averaged a touch over 13mpg on the two drag weeks I have done.

I really think it has a little more in it just like it is but not much at all. I changed mufflers and that really woke it up and messed up the tune and I believe its super rich. It sped up leaning it out in sea level air but I didn't have time to mess with it much more than the one change I made.

My '70 'Cuda weighs 3780lbs.,ran 10.70's at 125,on the motor on DOT tires last time out, there's more I it, as I got no tuning, but track closed shortly afterwards.
It's streetable, drove it on the Car Craft Anti Tour in 2011 and 2012, each being roughly a 750 mile round trip in 2 days, and drive it around quite a bit, going to work, cruises or just for the fun of it.

My dart is 2850 with me in it, but bought a Indy maxx block to lighten it up a bit over the winter and a few other changes. As of now, it will do 8.70's when it hooks. Still tuning it, waiting to run an all out pass still. full race car. just a fun car, nothing special.

Calvert springs, stock height I think, and 315's on 15x10 rims. I think I have a couple more pics of it somewhere with smaller tires on the front. PM me your email if you want. I may be selling the springs and caltracs, only have half a dozen weekends at the track on them.

Pretty impressive E.T's considering the weight of some of these cars and "truck" . I've been going back and forth wondering how much E.T. is lost while trying to maintain a stock appearance street car. Some impressive numbers for sure.

Yeah 1000# would be pretty hard to pull out of a big
old GTX... but it doesnt take much HP to run 8.90s
at 2400#... I just talked to a cam guy tonight and
he can get me another 100+ hp with a different grind
so I will go with it and dyno the engine for the next

63 Plymouth Sport Fury that weighs just over 3700 lbs and its a real street car with all the goodies working like wipers , horn , all lights , radio , heater and so on. All stock glass and interior and stock body. Runs on 92 pump thru full exh and I have to drive it to the track as I do not own a trailer. I like the fact that I can drive it to the track and race just the way I drive it on the street. Its about a 99% street driver that I race about twice a year when I can. I wanted a street car I could drive anywhere with no problems and run 10's just like I drive it as it has hit 10.70's so far. I have alot of fun driving the car and racing it when I can as thats what its all about to me. Driving my muscle car and having alot of fun with it. I cant afford a full race car so this kinda gives me the best of the street and race world. Ron

Holy crap, most of these cars are TANKS. I have a hard time seeing how some of these cars are SO heavy.

My GTX was all steel except for the hood. Factory glass, factory rails and pans. Full interior with a back seat. Ladder bars, coilovers front and rear, with a rack and tubular control arms. Full mild steel cage. Mega-block with B-1 heads. With me aboard and 2 nitrous bottles loaded up, it was 3180 ready to rock and I weighed about 175 at the time. It was 100% streetable and legal. All lights, horn etc worked. Even the dome and glove box lights still worked..........LOL!!!

To be honest I've never weighed my truck with a full tank of fuel or with all the crap in it in street trim, it would probably go over 4000. In race trim with 5 gallons of fuel it's about 3800. I've never owned a pure race car/truck, it gets driven HARD on the street. How fast???, I'd like to know too, it keeps breaking the weak links. Last attempt I had to drop the throttle at the 1/8 and coast through, that netted a 10.74@108.Dave

My Duster weighs 3,300 pounds without me in it, all metal full interior full exhaust small block, runs 12.40's through the mufflers, fully streetable (I take air out of the tires when I race it, that's the only difference.) Sometimes I remember to take the toolbox out of the trunk too.

'76 Dart weighs 3,400 pounds without me in it, with a mild 340 and a 4-speed it only runs high 13's... it's pretty heavy for an A-body.

'72 Challenger, also small block, 727, all metal full interior full exhaust weighs only 3,340 pounds. Everyone thinks it must weigh at least 4,000 pounds but nope, same as the A-bodies.

At 3,100 lbs my Street driven Barracuda went 8.02@170 many times in 2005 running KOS with a single stage fogger .040" pill.

It now weighs 3,000 and runs 8.9's @150 with no power adders and was driven over 1,000 street mile this past summer.

It went faster when it was heavier. Must have been hooking better LOL. Might have been that 100 lbs of nitrous system.

My Savoy is 3700lbs even with me in it and a full tank of gas. Bound to be 3800lbs by spring once I put the Dana in it and add some bars for 9.99 and down cert.

Couldn't try harder to make it heavier. Full exhaust, bench seat, stock glass, cast manifolds, steel wheels, filled block. The only light weight thing about is that it's a radio delete car from the factory... lol

My sig says it all except for it`s a 3.900 stroked 400(470) and is very streetable but now weighs 3050 w/me and have only raced 1/8th mile and went 6.20 @ 111.17 w/a 1.42 60 ft.............

Race weight is +/- 5235 lbs depending on how much fuel is in the tank. Truck is an 05 Dodge Ram 4x4. Only thing not factory is the engine, induction, trans and CalTrac's. Run's on 91 pump, 14 mpg highway. Best 1/8 to date is 6.87 @ 98. Best 1/4 with the brick is 11.03 @ 118. 60' between 1.48-1.50 in 4WD. Yes I race it in 4WD cause it's the only way I can get it to hook.

With me aboard and 2 nitrous bottles loaded up, it was 3180 ready to rock and I uweighed about 175 at the time. It was 100% streetable and legal. All lights, horn etc worked. Even the dome and glove box lights still worked..........LOL!!!

I'm thinking that the lack of OEM front/rear suspension/steering could have something to do with that... LOL!!!

Understand that, but AlterKtion and Magnum force fronts are very common these days, as are ladder bars, so not like there was anything exotic or cutting edge on my car and it was still a B-body that weighed less than 3200 race ready with driver. Some of these guys are listing similar cars at 3700-3800lbs.........wow

I currently just have a project car so I will post 1 of my old combo's, which I had a ton of fun with.

First was my old DartSport, 4 link back half with a stock front suspension, 3050#'s with me in it at 200#'s, I'm now 220#'s.

I loved the car but hated the lexan windows with a passion. It had an 11 to 1 compression 451 low deck with cnc ported Edelbrock RPM heads, 590 purpleshaft, 1.6 harlands, M1 tunnel ram with 2 750 Quickfuel custom TR carbs, 8" ATI treemaster converter, 4.56 gear'd Ford 9".

This car was very streetable, once I went with an electric water pump it was a little less streetable though.
Footbraked to a 1.36 60 foot, 6.20's, and 9.90's at 136.8 MPH through the X-pipe exhaust system.
New owner has gone quicker in it and is planning upgrades.

My boat is 4065 pounds with me (195) in the seat. I went out with it last month and went 11.22@ 121mph with a iron head big block if full street trim, no slicks. I drove it from New York to E-town and back.
It should go in the 10's with slicks.

Love the tow tabs! Brings back memories of flat towing from Bklyn to NY National Speedway back in the day.

Mine sees the street way more than the track. We only have an 1/8 mile around here, but it went 6.71 @ 100.5 on motor. I'm not sure on weight, but it's heavy...all steel, full interior with an 8 pt roll bar. I'd guess 3800+ race weight. Hopefully I get to see what she does with the Procharger next year.

Jeff my buddies sweet Coronet you see here according to him goes about 4000 lbs which I did not think it was that heavy but if your wedge weighs that much I guess he is right about his cars weight as he put a Hemi in his and did a great job as it looks like the factory did it. If you dont mind Jeff can you tell us more about your combo in your sweet Coronet. My buddies with his 472 Hemi has run low 11's but he has had problems with it using oil and must have had his Hemi apart 5 times looking to get it right and run 10's. I really like yours Jeff as thats why I would like to know more about your combo. Ron

My buddies Coronet is really sweet. He did an awesome job on it as his son and him did it all. He may have it in the 10's by now as I have not talked to him for a few months. Ron

Re: Whats your car weigh? How fast is it? Is it streetable? - 12/30/13 12:11 AM

My pumpgas 68 cuda just went on a huge diet..57lbs of mufflers and exhaust out,30lb lighter battery,Weld rims and tires are another 50lb and aluminum glide, new tube steering column,no alternator now and a few others things.I weighed it at atco with all street trim things in the car and the scale said 2860 w me 212lbs in it ( I was estatic ) anyway like i said i took a freakin ton out,and had the car scaled as it sits now.I was saddened to hear the car weighed what it did because for well over a yr i thought i had a potato chip .It now weighs with a 24lb nos bottle and 0 water in the radiator 3097.I had to look at the positive about this and that was that it went a best of 9.58 @ 141mph with a 950 carb w 0 work to the intake other then a portmatch on true pumpgas with street 3.91 gears,a 5500 stall and tti headers & full exhaust 3".

I gotta give credit to Ryan on this 59* indy headed 1/2 race 1/2 street car.

That's why I don't even go to track scales anymore.
When I get back in town, I'll scale mine on new digital scales.

11secdart weighs 3150 lbs with me in it, with the current 363 W2 headed small block with a 590 lift mechanical cam, 904, and Ultimate prepped 4700 stall 8 inch convertor with 4.56s thru mufflers its gone a best of 10.40 at 126 with a 1.40 60ft.,the last 5 years or so its been run an a throttle stop running 11.50s at 114 with low 1.50 60fts. It isn`t driven on the street but could be with a few changes, my friends try to convince me too. I have a new 408 stroker with W2 heads in the works to run on pump gas and hope to have it finished for next season.

Thanks Ron! I always judge how good I am running or tuning by what either yours or 68LAR is ET'ing. You both are what I am shooting for to be like with my car. I have a 499 lowdeck with eddys, M1, an AED950, and a small comp solid. 3k stall and full auto 727 (leave it in D) and either 3.91's or 3.55's (ET the same). I am putting 2"/3.5 collectors to replace my 1 7/8 Comps. Hoping for a 1/10th or 2 better. (3" headpipes, 2.5" Ultaflos, and 2.5" tails.)

mine weighs 3640 with me in it.very streetable.all metal body parts, wipers and roll up glass but the heater is gone and no backseat.its got plates and insurance .the engines is a 30 over 440,around 11-1 compression r/brown stx21 cam. the 456 gear and four thousand converter are what keeps me off the highway though.has been the fastest of 11.28 at120 mph.but averages around 11.42.i have owned it for thirty three years.its been a heck of a fun ride.
