2014 BGR Championship Series - 12/21/13 07:47 AM

After many months of planning Casini Race Promotions and Bob George Racing are excited to announce the 2014 BGR Championship Series. The BGRCS will consist of two racing weekends with a points race on Saturday and another on Sunday.

The event schedule is:

June 14-15
'The Pittsburgh Showdown'
Pittsburgh Raceway Park in New Alexandria, PA

August 16-17
'The 10th Annual Curt George Memorial'
Quaker City Dragway in Salem, OH

We are pleased to bring this series to a start and look forward to a great 2014 season. The series is putting the racers first with GUARANTEED payouts and a Year end points fund for the top 5 finishers in the class. Something new for the racer, Win 2nd Rd and get PAID!!!!! More Money in more racers pockets. No longer do you have to win 4 or 5 rounds to get paid.

The classes are much like you remember from the previous Curt George Memorial Races: Pro, Super Pro, Sportsman and Q16. We will be introducing a Nostalgia Super Stock Class, which will be open to all makes and models. The rules are being finalized for this class but if you have a 1972 or older racecar which looks period correct you are in. All other classes of competition will be Mopar powered vehicles only.

At this time we would like to say Thank You to Bud's Auto Sales located in Beaverdale and Indiana, PA for stepping up to sponsor the NSS Class. The Bud's Auto Sales NSS will feature some of coolest cars from the 60's 70's.

There will also be HEMI shootout. This will be a separate NO ENTRY FEE eliminator for all HEMI powered vehicles already entered in NSS. This will be a bracket style race.

The purse for each class with the exception of sportsman will pay $1000 to the winner GUARANTEED and will pay round money to each competitor advancing past the second round.

The purse for the Sportsman Class will pay $500 to the winner GUARANTEED and will pay round money to each competitor advancing past the second round.

PRO/SP/SPRT will have Re-Entries available if you happen to be a first round runner up. The Re-Entries in each class will run each other in a separate round with the winners advancing to the second round of the respective class. There will be no Re-Entries in the Q16 or NSS classes.

The BGR Championship Series and Casini Race Promotions go one step further for the racers and their families. Saturday Evening there will be a Racers BBQ where we can all come eat, enjoy good company and hear some great stories from our friends and family.

There will be a post race Cornhole Tournament on Saturday night as well. There will be prizes for the finalists in the tournament.

We are currently working on Round Prizes for the Best Losing Package of the round. This is something to soften the blow of having a great run but just being edged out by your opponent.

There will also be a run for the money which will award the top 3 packages.

A flyer is in the works and will be posted as soon as its completed.

Again thank you to our Current Sponsor Bob George Racing and Buds Auto Sales.

We hope you are as excited as we are about bringing these events to you the racers!!! We have a great pair of events planned for you by two great racing families.

Everyone have a safe and Happy Holiday Season. Merry Christmas! More Updates to come.

great racing and that friendly "down on the farm" partying with your family atmosphere .

there are at least 3 Mopar race series west of Pittsburgh

we need something in Eastern PA, NJ area

NSS class what would the tire rule be for this class.
Thanks / Gary
Posted By: ajcasini

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 12/22/13 04:17 PM

Gary no tire size restriction. As long as you have 4 of them you are good. The spirit of the class is to bring back the classic look and feel of drag racing.

Also you can enter the same car/same driver or same car/multiple drivers in multiple classes as long as it fits the class rules.

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 12/22/13 05:29 PM

Nostalgia Super Stock Class, which will be open to all makes and models. The rules are being finalized for this class but if you have a 1972 or older racecar which looks period correct you are in.

So my car might fit in to NSS class ? that would be cool..only reason it will not fit to the rules of most. is because of my carb. I never thought that was right.
Posted By: wyoming

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 12/22/13 06:02 PM

NSS isnt following the regular rules for the class, 10.5 tire, carbs total and make, and not clear on transbrakes, I can live with that but might be better to call the class Nostalgia, be less confusion that way since NSS usually designates dual carbed, or factory carbs, 10.5 tire, footbrake only, dual front seats, interior ect.

I have a question. I have a buddy that has a legal super stock small block 68 camaro that would come race these events. Problem is your rules state big block only. Does this go for legal super stock cars?

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 12/23/13 06:43 PM

Merry Christmas Eve Eve to everyone. We will clear up some of the questions.

Eric....As long as t-stop is used as a launch control there is no issue in SP. This is not legal in any other class. The rules in SP are no down-track timers or t-stops. (Although I think you should man-up and run that baby without the launch control... )

With regards to all the NSS questions.
We are not following the NSS rules that are published by other NSS organizations. The goal of the NSS class at these events is to bring the excitement of seeing big block nostalgic cars competing the way it used to be. We opened the rules up to allow for more cars to compete and allow them to enjoy the spirit of what we are trying to do. Here are the clarified rules:

NSS
All runs made on 1/4 mile.
All runs made using a .500 PRO tree start. Elims will be staggered pro tree.
Dial in must end in 0 or 5 (.X5 or .X0).
Footbrake only. Exception is 2-step for manual transmission vehicle.
ET Break 12.50 and quicker.

Full size sedans and station wagons produced from 1960-1972
Cars must have been available with big block engines as an option.
Exceptions: 68 HEMI Darts and Cudas, 68 428 CJ Package Mustangs, 69 AMX SS package cars.

Big Block Engines Only. No Smallblocks. Dual and Single Four Barrel allowed. No CI limit. No tire size restrictions.

Cars must appear period correct. Hood scoops must be period correct. No cowl or snorkel style hoods allowed.

Cars must pass IHRA tech inspection for ET.

Hope this helps to clarify the class. We look forward to having a great 2014 series with all of you.

We are just a little over two months from opening up the gates at PRP for the race of the BGR Championship Series. Who will be the first champions crowned? Will it be you?

The races will deliver some great things for all of the racers and spectators. There will be round prizes awarded every day to one lucky loser...If you come up short in the round we will be doing random tech card draws, best losing RT, closest to dial but lost and best losing package to award these prizes.

Thank you all for your interest and look forward to meeting all of you in person when we open the gates. Until then think warm thoughts...

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 03/18/14 01:59 AM

I clearly need more vacation time and a better tax return….Looks like an awesome series.

Is that a Q16 race each day?
How is the Q16 and S/P run order?
If you don’t make the Q16 do you fall into S/P without additional entry fee?
What is typical of the open wheel ET bump in Q16?

Thanks in advance !
Posted By: ajcasini

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 03/18/14 03:30 AM

Hey Jerry. Yeah we could all use a little more tax refund and definitely more vacation. It seems like that 9-5 work thing always gets in the way of fun.

To answer your questions:

Yes there will be a Q16 race each day.
Run order at this time is: SPRT, PRO, SP, NSS, Q16.
Yes if you are bumped from the Q16 you will be entered into SP.
I would say if you are solid in the 4.XX you will be in the show.

Thanks for your interest and look forward to meeting you this summer. Also check out the Points fund for the Series a few posts up. Q16 champion will be awarded with cash, a gold card for the 2015 events and a $500 machine work credit or 8 hour dyno session from Koffels Place.

It all starts right there. Sponsors equals better payouts, better payout equals more racers. Then comes communication and how well the racers and fans are treated at the given race as to if the will return or not. I think these two races will be a GREAT success.

A big thanks to AJ/Casini Promotions for putting together a detailed sponsership package for potential sponsers. This package defines the levels of sponser contributations as well as what they are intitled to for their sponsership. It details what the series is about and what the attendees and partisipants can expect. This is how a event should be planned, everone knows what their getting for their bucks.Never should a promoter pass his cost to the racers, they are the show and they have paid their share with the cost of travel, entry and racing and should never be be penalized for lack of car count or rainouts as well as anything beyond their control.
With a big thanks to AJ and the BGR people who work hard to put this series together,we would like to add to the sponsership list the following business's.

Brookman Iron and Metal of Washington Pa.
Suzie B's Breakfast and Lunch of Cannonsburg,Pa.

It's the job of the promoters, track owners and how the event is advertized that fill the stands. It's not the sponsers, they provide the funding for the event and the racers provide the "show".We have been disappointed in the past with the promoters and track owners who want to do nothing but collect money and see how much they can put in their pockets. My thoughts are no effort,no money. If you have to cut payouts and do other things to make money, then you are not going to last.We have watched how other events are handled and hopefully we can learn from their mistakes. After being a major sponser of the Curt Memorial Race for the last nine years we have seen the success and failure of both the promoters and track owners and have gained some eye opening experience. What AJ and BGR is doing comes from our hearts and love of the sport not from what we can put in our pockets. If the series is successfull we will invest in making it better for next year.
Thanks again to AJ since we were frustrated with how things were handled in the past and almost decided to not have the event but AJ stepped up and asked for the oppertunity to take charge and so far we are impressed with his efforts. We are commited to support his efforts. We hope all of you will do the same,so that he can develope the series for the future.Supporting this series is also supporting eveyone who enjoys our sport. As we have great memories of the past days of racing,we want to create new memories for our future generations.

Surprisingly enough that NO.. repeat NO tracks up
this way advertize anymore... years ago it was always
on the radio.. and nothing now days and no flyers
in any of the auto places... NO advertizing at all..
its no wonder that tracks have be closing over the years

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 03/31/14 10:54 PM

At the 7th and 8th Curt Memorial race we advertized on two local radio stations and was shocked at how many spectators attended.Back in the 60s and 70s it was common for radio and tv advertizing and if you look back at old pictures and films the crowds were enormous.Beaver Springs today is a prime example of how to gather spectators at an event. The people fill the stands and line the fences to watch.

Well.....I will say this. Today I stopped by the Hog Pen and guess what I found. The Grumpy Bear and A.J. working on the flyer in the office in the shop. Folks...these guys are passionate about putting on a quality race for all Mopar lovers to attend and enjoy. My thanks goes out to all involved for their hard work

Now everyone pray for rain in Maryland at the IHRA divisional so I can skip it and attend both of BGR and A.J's awesome races.

We put a lot of time into the flyer and it turned out very nice. The action packed behind it will be great. Cannot wait until June.

Great looking flyer. I'm assuming the .400 full tree is a typo in N/SS

I thought I heard it was a 500 pro tree

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 04/09/14 12:39 AM

We were originally running it as a .500 PRO Tree however upon further thought we wanted to keep consistent with some of the other races out there and made the change to the .400 Full Tree.

Instead of .500 between bulbs its .400

I should get out more often.. i never seen a 400 full tree..
Posted By: Whompin_Wedge

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 04/09/14 07:08 PM

Its a protree. Quicker than the .500 same as super-comp, supergas.

Can't say that I am fond of that decision though. This will make it much easier for faster cars to get off the line first..

Not a pro tree. .400 FULL tree like what is run by the 422 all stars series.

I'm curious, why a .400 full tree and not the normal .500? I hate seeing small front tires just to make it leave on a .400 tree. This is the first time I've ever seen a .400 full tree. Most if not nearly all of this style car and driver are used to a .500 full tree. I just hate to give away a .10 at the start. My car is set up .500 as I'll bet most N/SS cars are. My 2 cents.

.400 full tree, be my first time for that, I rather run that the the .400 Pro Tree though, I kinda liked the first .500 Pro Tree, but I guess it will work. Has it been decided if that class will be laddered?

I've used the .400 pro tree a FEW times... I know
I cant red light on it but I can on a .500 pro tree..
but the .400 full tree is a bit weird... JMO

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 04/09/14 11:49 PM

I dont redlight on a .500 pro tree, we used the .400 Pro tree last year at Pittsburg, I didnt really care for it, went a couple of rounds but my lights were all over the place, mine werent the only ones though.

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 04/10/14 12:57 AM

It will be a little different from what we are used to but that is what we were trying to do. We wanted to focus the attention on the class with a guaranteed payout and change it up from a standard bracket race. This will create for some great competition as drivers will adapt to the tree and also work with the .05 - .X0 dial in's. I have run the .400 full tree in the past and once you get a run or 2 in you will feel at home.

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 04/10/14 01:03 AM

Tim Bowman of Bowman Performance has come up with a great way to soften the blow of making that final round appearance but coming up a bit short. Bowman Performance will be awarding the Runner-Ups of each class with $50 cash. This will be for Q-16, SP, PRO, Sportsman and NSS.

Thank you to Tim and the Bowman Performance team for this great addition to the BGR Championship Series Events.

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 04/29/14 04:43 PM

We run the 422 All Stars, and they use the .4 full tree.....it makes for a better show. It levels the playing field, as the 18 year old professional bracket killers have no advantage over anyone else. It also cuts down on redlights, and the dial encourages flat out racing, and less brake light racing.

It make NSS a bit different....makes it unique from just another bracket race. It should be unique.

Re: 2014 BGR Championship Series - 04/29/14 08:36 PM

I think the .400 full tree is a great idea. It will get the nss guys on their toes and mix it up a bit. Should be very interesting seeing who can adapt the quickest. Besides the nss guys are all experienced racers they should not have any trouble with it. Hopefully A.J wont have to deal with to many tears

One other note on pre-entires. All pre entries are 100% refundable no questions asked. If you cannot make it let us know and we will refund your money.

Also in the event of weather forcing a cancellation of the entire event all paid entries will receive a rain check. This rain check will be good for one full year to use at any BGR Championship Series Event.

If weather shortens an event we will go back to the last fully completed round per class and award points and split the purse evenly between the remaining cars.

Thank you to all of you that are supporting the event and to our great sponsors. Without all of you fine people this would not be possible.

In just over 3 weeks the gates will be opening for the First Event in the BGR Championship Series at Pittsburgh Raceway Park. There will be plenty of racing and some great food at the Raers BBQ on Saturday.

I for one cannot wait to open the gates and let the BGR Championship Series begin. We will be crowning champions in each class after the two events.

Will it be you?

We would also like to thank all of sponsors for their support of the events. Without you we would not be able to bring these great events to the racers.

Just a couple rule clarifications for NSS and the HEMI shootout.

NSS - Rules state Sedans and Wagons. This also include hardtops and coupes.

HEMI SO - States open to all HEMI cars already entered in NSS. This should state any HEMI car meeting NSS body style rules already entered in competition. If you have a HEMI car meeting NSS body style rules and running PRO your can also enter the HEMI SO.

Should be easy to switch back and forth
