Scat Pro Comp 9000 lightened 4" stroker crank

Anyone use this crank. I was thinking of a cheap, inexpensive, tight budget 360/408 stroker motor. It would be going in a 72 Dart 4speed 3.91 8 3/4 manual brake, steering steet/strip car, mostly street.

Will it take alot of mallory metal to internally balance this crank? or can I use a stock 360 10.5" external flywheel, or should I use a stock 10.5 internal balance flywheel?

I was thinking about using a edelbrock perf rpm intake with a comp XE286H cam, the J heads I have already have comp 995 springs on them. I was looking for 425/450 hp range. Any ideas, complaints, corrections are greatly appreciated, Thanks guys.

I used the Scat cast crank with Scat I-beam rods and Keith Black KB745 step dish forged pistons for my small block stroker build. I bought it all as an internally balanced kit but the balance was sloppy so local shop corrected it. I also had the new crank turned 10/10 because I was not happy with the run out and bearing clearances.

If you already have the crank and then go out and buy the same pistons and rods as I got then no mallory will be need to internally balance it. If you buy as a kit I'd have a good reputable local shop balance it.

They rate that crank for up to 700hp,I wouldn't go that far but that is what they will tell you.They are designed to be internally balanced.

It just threw me off a little. I thought all of the new cast cranks were all external balance like the factory 360 cranks. But like 69cuda said his kit was basically internally balanced right out of the box.

So I should be able to have my machinist balance this crank with a factory standard 318,383,440 10.5 flywheel and a factory internal balance 318/340 harmonic balancer, and not have to use any or very little mallory metal? I won't need to use the external balance 360 flywheel or harmonic balancer?

If this crank is a drop in internal balance job and good for 700 horsepower, this has got to be a no brainer. for less than 300 bones.

It just seems to good to be true, and I was wondering if anybody else has used it and what their results were.

I already have the 4.00" stroker pistons and a good set of reconditioned rods, and I'm only wanting to make about 425 to 450 hp. I think in a 3200 lb dart with a 4speed and 3.91 gears it would be a fun little street car, something to mess with the 5.0/4.6 and lt1/ls1 guys. Maybe later add a set of eddy or w2 heads.

There is nothing "special" about that crank, it is the original MP/SCAT 9000 that was first released by MP back around 1999...with the SCAT logo ground off... so it's been around for almost 10 years. They will NOT live long at 700 HP. I've seen at least 5 broken ones & all came out of motors making considerably less than that. It's a great budget crank, just keep the power reasonable or the rod throws will break.

Used an MP cast crank for my first stroker. It took 3 slugs of mallory to balance. Not much of a savings that way.

thats kind of scary.

I got their forged 4" crank and rods and KB pistons supposedly balanced. My balance was half fast at best. I had my setup rebalanced too.
