New Cam Lube Alternative - 12/18/08 12:22 PM

We are all looking for additives to make our oil bullet proof. Check this out, it is a more effective additive than the I need ZDDP thought.

very interesting.

Has anyone tried this with their flat tappet cam.
I've never heard of it(which means nothing) but
if it was all that I believe we would have heard
about it. We know that zinc was removed and thats
when we seen issues and basicly they say zinc is
bad. I dont know but I'll let someone try it first

Yes I have tried it! And I know a bunch of guys in Salt Lake, UT that tested it all last year. It truly looks like the answer to what is missing. And since it has no zinc, chlorine or teflon stuff in it, it may be around for a long time!

You think zinc additives will not be on the market for long? Why?

Why did they remove zinc from oil in the first place? Why did they remove lead from gasoline?
Probably the same people that invented the internet? I think they have been refered to as Luberals?

"Luberals" thats funny!!! My point is that an additive is SO "under radar" that its highly unlikely to be the target for removal from the market in its additive form. Taking out of the oil solves 99.999% of the problem due to the incredibly small minority of people that will actually put a zinc ADDITIVE in the crankcase. Tetraethyl Lead was removed (I think?--maybe you can still buy it as an additive?) but that was a pretty visable issue (Lead is poison that everyone equates to ruining our children's lives), I don't think the 'zinc kills catalytic converters over time and therefor leads to more pollution from high mileage cars' is in the same league in terms a problem that needs to be addressed.

I would bet that zinc additive will be on the market for some time, and likely more will even be introduced.
Moly (Comp Cams additive is Moly) works too.

Pacnorth I've been running this additive for years with royal purple oil. And I am a firm believer in if something is working don't change it! I think its made up in your neck of the woods? http://www.powerpunch.biz/

I find the statement that it is so effective "you should not add it to your automatic transmission". Who the hell puts cam lube in a transmission? Having said that if it's not just snake oil, then I'll give it a go....

ZDDP will kill the new catalytic converters. The old catalytic converters are not as big an issue. So ZDDP was reduced and will be removed all together.

ZDDP is outlawed in Canada and Europe. I have heard that it is on the chopping block for the US too. I like the fact that this is a product that is environmentally good to use.

People are weird. This stuff must put a slick surface on the iron plates in the clutch pack. I bet they have that statement because some idiot tried it. Remember some spilled hot coffee on them at McDonalds and they sued McDonalds because it was hot. Dugh! Maybe that is why they sell Ice Coffee now?

Why bother with a substitute when you can get the real thing?

Re: New Cam Lube Alternative - 12/21/08 07:59 AM

Maybe these guys have something new that works? I am always open to a new "Mouse Trap". After all, we did through away the stone tables a while back for something Al Gore supposedly invented called the internet. And being a Curious George I found this as an excerpt from a ZDDP study.

"The results described show that ZDDP reaction films can produce high friction in intermediate speed conditions even when the films formed are quite smooth. Thus reaction film roughness is not the main origin of the friction-enhancing effect. Instead the effect appears to be due to reduced lubricant entrainment when a ZDDP reaction film is present on one of the rubbing surfaces.

CONCLUSION:
ZDDP reaction films formed in rubbing contacts are known to produce enhanced friction in mixed lubrication conditions. In previous work this has been ascribed to a roughening of the surfaces due to the reaction film. However the current work shows that this is not the case; instead the ZDDP reaction film appears to inhibit lubricant entrainment into the contact, thereby leading to a reduced EHD film thickness compared to ZDDP-free lubricants."

So my thought is if these guys have found a way to supply protection with out adding friction, just maybe it is worth a look. We are all looking for help here. I am not looking for any kind of an argument here, we just need to keep an open mind. Their web site is very interesting and brings up some good points to consider.

You sure about this? We build trucks in the States that ship all over the world, in Ste. Therese Ontario, and in the Netherlands (DAF) that use Chevron Delo 15w40LE CJ-4 that still very much has ZDDP in it. ZDDP is still in the oils (we all know that) just at reduced levels.
Are you saying Canada has banned it as a do-it-yourself additive? Can you buy STP in Canada? That still has it and its an additive....

another point....Of the relatively few cars that would ever get a ZDDP ADDITIVE, imagine the small minority of those that are Catalytic converter equipped!!!!!! No harm no foul on our old pre-cat rides.

Re: New Cam Lube Alternative - 12/22/08 01:41 AM

When I was at PRI last week, the catalog suppliers were talking about the sale of ZPPP and Chlorine products not being sold in Canada. It was the first that I had heard it mentioned. The Wholesalers might be ahead of us "Users" on the information food chain.

I am also not opposed to ZDDP. What I am opposed to is having to redo a fresh overhaul. I got my hands on some of this Cam Lube from the guys in Salt Lake that had access to the product for testing. My engine oil temp dropped about 15 degrees and my solid lifter cam became noticeably quieter. The guys in Salt Lake were having to do way less valve adjustments and all of their engine oil temps were 10 to 20 degrees lower.

I tried it. I liked it. I see a slight improvement in performance. I will use it in my #s matching 360 Roadrunner I have to start up this winter.

Somebody ask if anybody had used it and I have. I am just passing along info.

I know these guys, yep stuff is supposed to really work, I haven't tried it, run a roller myself. I pit with them and race with them regularly.
