Two thumbs up to IMM engines - 09/28/13 09:46 PM

Brian and his dad Fred built the 408 SB that's in my dart, so far I have put over 8000 street miles on the motor including two Drag Weeks and around 60 drag strip passes[would be more but all of the tracks are closed here]
This last Drag Week the motor had to put up with 4.56 gears for over 1200 miles.
Oh did I mention this motor has a SOLID ROLLER cam and the lifters have NRVER been rebuilt.

A W8 could happen, If nothing else I have a new set of 59 degree W9s here that are in need of a CNC port job.
Do you think a W8 motor would break my 8 3/4?Quicktree, Quicktree are you there?

69 Dart that weighs 3420
pump gas 408 SB
W2 heads-10.4to1 compression
254-258-.699-.703 solid roller cam
Victor intake 950HP Holley
904 trans with low gear set- no transbrake
9 1/2 convertor
83/4 with 4.56 gear
Full exhaust that Abdul the Butcher installed

The convertor only flashes to 4200 and on tight tracks like we had on Drag Week it would pull the motor down and hurt the 60 foots.
I also found out to late because of no testing that I have a fuel delivery problem
The best ET so far 11.09 best MPH-120.70

I am not sure at this point if I want to spend 1200 dollars on a 8 inch convertor or bolt on a 150hp nitrous kit and put the 3.73s back in it. The cams LSA is 112 so I think the car would like the nitrous. Of course the first thing I need to do is deal with the fuel delivery issue.

Those gears must do your head in on the motorway.
Nice car and very close to a 10.

Comp lifters, comp springs, T@D rockers.

The lifters were checked at 5000 miles when the larger cam was installed and the lifter body's, wheels and the smaller cam looked liked NEW.

I do not remember the part number of the lifters Matt, Brian ordered them.
This is the best pic of the rockers that I have.

you guys that are gittin all these miles out of your roller lifters, what spring press.are you runnin?

Re: Two thumbs up to IMM engines - 09/30/13 04:32 PM

Thank you Daryl and everyone else for the positive comments!

Those are Comp 8043-16 lifters.

Valve train life is more about lobe choice, rpm, toss weight, and spring used than anything. It all has to work in harmony or you'll get shorter life.
Using quality components like the TD rockers is KEY to valvetrain life and stability!! Very important.
