indy sr head limited pushrod clearane

indy sr head limited pushrod clearane - 09/15/13 10:00 PM

I searched the board to see if anyone had similar issues with pushrod clearance with max ported heads and found nothing

I have limited intake pushrod clearance with the brass tubes inserted as the tubes rub against the pushrods tightly

I have 1.6 rockers that make the pushrod rub the brass tubes more than I would like to see. If I change out to my 1.5 rockers the adjusting screw will not align up with the pushrod cup as the brass tube wont allow the pushrods upward (towards the intake) movement.

Machining necessary for some clearancing? I could be to over cautious? Don't think so just don't want these pushrod beating the crap outta these tubes

Heads may have to come back off.?

I will up load some pics

It took some work but I was able to make enough clearance on my EZ heads to run a 1/2 pushrod. The heads were on and off the milling machine a few times though.

I think I have finally figured out to upload pics lol

I believe I can get away with a 3/8 pushrod minimum according to Smith bros .

So why the tubes? on mine i opened up to max port and ported what i thought was safe. Then had to clearance for pushrods hear and there.

eventually i had the pushrod indent welded in and smoothed out the port and went with .800 offset intake rockers.

May as well have went 440-1 right off the hit!

another way to get way of the pinch I am told for a cnc full port, yeah you are right lol 440-1 right off the jump would have been a better choice , but I am not even smart to use good hindsight lol

Yea i got mine in 2002 figuring I use my Team G and Crane rockers $1999 from mancini's everything I need. So first after talking to indy about porting bought the indy intake $$$$ so opened ports to max wedge and some porting. (4150 2 inch adapter spacer up to 4500). Had to buy the valley plate more $$$$. (add says everything you need in kit???) Used my crane gold rockers and mt valve covers.

Later thinking about welding in pushrod pinch (or having a friend do it) so I bought Crane .500 offset 1.6 rockers (say for max wedge and stage 6??) anyway get pushrod pinch welded and port straightened out upgrade to 2.25/1.81 Manly sever duty valves and find .500 is not enough offset.

Buy Indy brand .800 offset 1.6 rockers which don't come with shafts so MP shafts more $$$$ eventually acquired used Harland sharp rockers that needed shafts.

So in the end I have more $$ in than if i had just bit the bullet and got a 440-1 kit and I still don't have the valve covers.

So when anyone askes now i say go straight to the 440-1 kit and in the end you start right where you want to be save for the porting?

Some of you guys get all hung up on "THE PINCH" Its not always the restriction, its just the easiest to see. Each port has 3-4 restrictions and they have to be measured and sized accordingly.

Hello I cut my SR heads for push rod clearance and got 1.6 roller rockers. The 1.5 rockers did not work.had lots of room after cutting them. my a real Mopar Man

Yes I now do agree that I with the 440-1 I would be better off, I was ignorant to the fact of tubes being put in the heads, and sometimes the right questions is necessary for an clear understanding which I didn't ask.

But at the same time now I will run these and heads when and if possible as they are the here and now after I can get them machined out is what I need

thanks for the replies moparts

Not pretty at all clearancing the tunnels for pushrods.
I am curious if there are other ideas about this?
