this is the pan I made . I have used it with a single 4 barrel and with my dual quad modman , filter base bolts in . It is made of heatproof fibreglass , used in marine exhaust work and high density seat foam. this is under a six pack scoop .
IMO aluminium tray will transfer heat almost as fast as no tray . one of the guys on here does repop glass air cleaners , like the A12 and freshair units but can set them to suit your carb spacing and carb type .early AFB or later eddy/afb/holley . paintitblack(?)

4" drop air cleaner base sheet of. 040 aluminum and some moroso foam.
The hold down is a handle off of the side of an aluminum harbor freight floor jack.
Found out that the foam cuts awesome with the bandsaw.
Added a 4" air filter and 3/4" thick ring of air pan foam to the underside of the hood that keeps the filter in place.
Saw a .2 gain and zero change by adding the air filter.
I made the pan as big as the hood scoop.
