drag shock settings

drag shock settings - 08/30/13 03:24 PM

I will be putting on some drag shocks this weekend. The rears are on but I'm not sure where I have them. I'm guessing the fronts should be set at 90/10 (60/40 and 80/20 are available). The rears can be 50/50, 60/40 or 70/30. I think I tried 60/40 and 70/30 and had saw no difference. I have since added spring clamps and hope w/ the fronts to be in the 1.50-1.55 range. I have cut a few 1.60 60's but usually it's in the 1.65-1.68 range, and if I use the converter right..dead stomp it and let it flash, the tires will blow up and I'll be in the 1.75-1.78 range.
If it matters the car has XHD springs, Turbo Action 3800, 3.91's and MT 275/60/15 Pro Drag Radials.

Comp engineering
These Competition Engineering adjustable drag shocks offer a 3-way valving system to dial-in the extension/compression ratio needed for any track condition. The front shocks have three adjustable ratios of 90/10, 80/20, and 60/40. The ratios for the rear shocks are 70/30, 60/40, and 50/50. These numbers represent the percentage of force required to extend (first number) and compress (second number) the shock. By changing the settings on the front and rear shocks, you can dial-in the car to raise the front on initial launch for weight transfer, and then settle smoothly for a final charge to the finish line.

So start at 50/50 rear and work up.

I had the Comp fronts and sold then the 90/10 setting is 70/30 at best.

Re: drag shock settings - 08/30/13 04:08 PM

good question, I'm guess the 90/10 would allow the front end to extend quickly for weight transfer and the rear 70/30 would allow the rear to "squat" faster???

instructions indicate..
Front regular 90/10, Firm 80/20, Xtra firm 60/40
Rear regular is 70/30, Firm 50/50 and X-firm 40/60

Make sure your rear shocks are not topping out before the suspension is fully extened.

You may need a set of these

Re: drag shock settings - 08/30/13 04:23 PM

yes on the front but on the rear (unless you have a 4 link) a mopar will want to rise up making the extension stiffer helps slow down the rise so energy gets spread out on launch. Or does not fully extend to quick and unload the tire.

I would say those shocks if they only have 16" extension are way to short??? Cal track actually uses a truck shock at least 4" longer

On those type of shocks the first number is the
extension rate and the second is compression... I'm
not a fan of the CE... way to broad on the adjustment..
if I want to change the extension I dont want to change
the compression... but on those you are stuck with
changing both.. on any car that launches you want
to control the extension rate... down track you want
to control the compression

check to see when they top out!
I read the wrong lengths.

how do I check that? unbolt and extend them? or jack the butt end up untill they are fully extended?

Lift the car.. let the rear hang.. pull both shock
and see when its fully extended that its at least
1" longer than the mount stud... just pull the shocks
off the bottom mount
