A real starting line fiasco

Personally I would never do a second burnout. It would take a very long "break" to get me to warm the tires again, they simply don't cool that fast. I have had a number of instances where I was shut down after a burnout for a number of reasons. Don't think I have ever done a second burnout after being shut off. Simply not needed unless it for an extended period of time. It is your car and you always make the call on whether or not to do a second burn out, the track cannot force you to do it. Just my

I would have held up because they clearly had no right to force you in the water.
Count it as a learning experience.

I would not do another burnout either unless I sat for 15+ minutes. In fact I would barely back up to keep my tires near where they will launch. Sometimes the racers know more then the track help. I was at a big money race that allowed 2 time trials and had made a run in the left lane. Two cars remained and we were both looking for right lane. He pulled out, I pulled out behind him, that's when all hell broke loose. Track attendant waiving his arms, yelling, etc. trying to force me to run left lane. I calmly shut the car off, opened the door, and started to remove my seatbelts when his boss came running over, apologized to me and let Cory know of his mistake!! They do that to the ricers all the time on TnT night but not during a race.
I also sat on the starting line for 45mins one night knowing I should get out and change my dial due to deteriorating circumstances, but did not. Lost the race because of it... dumb

You have to be smarter than the track people. You said you told the starter that you did not want to go threw the burnout again. So when the other two guys were trying to get you to back up you should of just sat there and made the starter come up to the car and then you could of reminded him of the fact you did not want to do a burnout again.The only one knew you didn't want to back up was the starter so the other two guys had no clue.They thought in their minds that they were doing you a favor.Stick to your own way of doing burnouts and staging and if there is a problem try to have a plan and stay to that.I blame the starter then the track for having to many cheifs and not enough indians then you for not putting up some kind of a fuss so they would have to acually talk to you. If they did make you back up all you should of done was to the edge of the water box then do a quick hit then to the line.Not sticking up for the track people but they have to deal with many differant racers and most of the time its dam if you do and dam if you don't in a situation like that.

Yep, probably was my fault for not sticking to my - no second burnout plan. Should have used the "universal" one finger sign language on them.

If there is a Safety issue(oil,parts,cars)on track they can hold you till the track is clear other than that let no one tell you what you must do!Unlike most if I sat over a couple of mins I like to do another Burn-Out,and make sure I do a harder & longer burn-out than normal.

One thing about burnouts most forget is number one is to clean them secondary is heat. After tires set for a week they harden. The first good burnout gets the hard coating off then do an easy one next run to get the junk off that's picked up. Check your tires after the run and see how sticky they still are (all the rocks and junk stuck to them). Tire people LOVE to see those big smokey burnouts. There is rubber and VHT on the tract already you want your clean dry tires to stick to that. So you were right not to back up.

I'm sure all of us have had some type of starting line fiasco. At one of the tracks I race at during a specific time during the summer the setting sun will sit directly on top of the Xmas tree if you're in the left lane. It happened to me once during eliminations and as I staged I could not see the tree because the sun completely blinded me. This usually only lasts a few minutes because when the sun gets behind the tree you can see it. Anyway when I couldn't see the tree I backed out of staging and motioned to the starter that I couldn't see. He came over and verified the problem and was going to wait a moment. The tower told him to tell me to get staged or forfiet the round. I started fumbling around trying to put on a pair of sunglasses my crew man had. Anyway I finally delayed enough that when I did stage the sun was behind the tree and I won the round. After the run the track owner and I had a few heated words because I have seen him stop the race for 5 minutes before so the sun could move. He never did that to me again.
