General update on blocks

General update on blocks - 05/30/13 07:59 PM

Not sure why it happened as nobody explained it to me, but there's been another dry spell recently. Thankfully it has only been for a short while and availability is coming back.

note, "dealer inventory" only applies to participating chrysler dealerships, not speed shops.

Hope this helps somebody out.

The 9.200 48 degree siamese block I got in the fall sonic tested well and the build has begun. That had me worried a bit.

Re: General update on blocks - 05/30/13 09:24 PM

Rich... any clue who is casting up the iron blocks
these days... and I know Chrysler has a strange system
of counting... but how can you have a back order if
there is still product in the warehouse as in a few
that you show.... thanks for the info.. I think I
might look at picking up a 340 siamese

Re: General update on blocks - 05/30/13 09:32 PM

Who is making the Hemi blocks? Are these World?
Posted By: ZIPPY

Re: General update on blocks - 05/30/13 10:33 PM

World never did actually make them, although I still call them world blocks along with alot of others. World farmed out the casting and machining from day one, and it's the same machine shop/packager and foundry as before.

sorry I could not disclose that in '07 but things were different back then.

The dealer inventory means the blocks are sitting at dealerships somewhere. Not at warehouses....if that helps explain what I meant.

Some of them are backordered because of the price the customer has agreed to...let's say for instance a guy who works at a dealer gets it at cost, if the dealer orders it from PDC inventory....that guy is not going to buy it from some other dealer in another state, pay more for the part because that other dealer won't give him a break on price, and pay for shipping on top of it. He will have the place he works at backorder it, and will wait for it so he pays less........that's how backorders happen on parts that are actually readily available, happens alot too. Mike's other question is answered in PM.

Thanks for the block info Zippy. Any word on the Dragpack hemi intakes? I heard there are changes.

Re: General update on blocks - 05/31/13 04:01 AM

I work for a dealership here in KY and those two BO P5153942AB blocks should be mine that I ordered. The 4 blocks that are showing in inventory in a MI dealership apparently are not available for sale as they would not sell me even one of the blocks they have...... We called them, tried to buy one and they said no. Been looking for one but no one seems to want to turn loose of what they have??

When we ordered the first block about a month or so ago, dealer connect showed an ETA of early August. Then recently, they moved ETA up to late July and then Tuesday....there was no ETA listed. I was told by a pretty trustworthy source that 80 of this block part number (P5153942AB) is being released very soon as in possibly this week or next? Hopefully that information is correct as we could really use one of those blocks now.......

Any word on 6.1?
Posted By: ZIPPY

Re: General update on blocks - 05/31/13 03:20 PM

Yeah it should not be much longer on 3942ab.

Personally if I had four of them I would sell them all at or above retail and immediately backorder another handful. Because it's plain to see they are going to show up, all of them including the wedge use a common casting. So it is only a matter of time before the 3942 variant is made, and when it happens there will be a bunch.

On 6.1 the original verdict was, when Saltillo changed over to Eagle/Apache they were all done with 6.1
blocks and they would never make them again. Then I heard a rumor they might come back with a reman part number and would be sold for a higher price. I won't believe that until I see something actually happen, though.

The drag pak intake is discontinued, assuming we're referring to P5155288? I do not necessarily
agree with that decision but that's the info I can find on it.

Once again thanks! I know you would not be able to give info about a future model and engine but when this 6.2 Supercharged block comes out. Could you let us know. I hope they haven't pulled the plug on it.
Any other stuff for the G3 that Fiat forgot to publish?

P4876791AD is readily available right now, showing 4 in whse inventory. It is 9.200" 59 degree siamese.

P4876673AD shows 0 whse, 0 dealer stock, and 0 backorders. Seems like they are probably waiting for orders to come in on that one. `It is a tall deck 9.600 48 degree siamese.

They both have 340 mains.

I don't have any information on future products, am completely out of that loop. I am pretty sure that if and when it comes out, it will be all over the internet long before I know anything about it...not trying to be smart, just honest.

Are there any hemi blocks, minus lifter bores in the system? With the new NHRA hemi superstock rule luming for 2014, how many cast iron hemi heads are currently available? thanks, Dyno SS/AH 5583

There are 11 P5153943AB blocks available today, and there are 31 P4529898 bare iron heads to go with them.

Just to confirm and clarify that is the block with no lifter bores, and that's the head with no pushrod holes....

There are also, amazingly, 280 P4876855 complete stock replacement style iron heads in stock which seems like alot, alhough that would be the wrong choice for ss/ah....Just mentioning it because it's an iron hemi head, and the stock levels are very high right now.

Thank you for the update Zippy. Are there any 6.1 blocks and legal Drag Pak heads available?

Re: General update on blocks - 06/05/13 04:40 PM

You bet, LFD.

I have not seen any activity on 6.1 blocks or heads lately.

Re: General update on blocks - 06/05/13 07:01 PM

I don't get it. Wish a guy could snag some 6.1 stuff without springing for the aluminum block. If those blocks were about a grand cheaper there sure would be a lot more butt hurt LS lovers out there.

Re: General update on blocks - 06/05/13 07:58 PM

It's really no problem....it's just that the situation hasn't changed from several months ago.

The block isn't sold bare any longer, so it has to be a short block assy. As painful as that may be, at least there are about a dozen of them readily available.

Same with heads, it is no problem getting them, there are about a dozen of each part number available. But they are not sold bare. For anything other than a stocker the Eagle and Apache heads seem to have taken over.

I'm confused. R U taking about the 6.1 block only comes as a short block?
If yes do you have a part #?
If this is true I don't understand why Fiat sold so many bare 6.1 block.
According to INDY they bought almost all of them at a really cheap price.
Even if they had really bad core shift why?
Obviously the short block are for warranty?

Re: General update on blocks - 06/06/13 01:27 AM

The R4 is still on back order? They have been on back order for years now

rl159561ae If this is true I don't understand why Fiat sold so many bare 6.1 block. technically not fiat, more accurately mopar, unless that was intended as a friendly insult... in which case please continue as I enjoy those and please keep them coming .... here is a quote from an earlier post of mine to help explain
Quote:

Sorry I can't tell you what happened there, although I don't agree with the situation I do know Indy is sitting on big quantities. Obviously the short block are for warranty? could be, but I have no way of finding that out as I'm not involved with that process, somebody else would have to take a guess

On to the next question-----

Actually the R4 blocks are readily available now, as said...whatever the hold up was did take quite awhile to work out....but they're in stock now.

P5007151AC shows 15 in whse inventory (the p-head block)
P5007270AC shows 5 in whse inventory (the wedge block)

Keep us posted.
Thanks Matt.

Re: General update on blocks - 06/06/13 07:45 PM

We (Indy) Only have about 25 Blocks left, not nearly the quantity we had when Chrysler wanted to get rid of all of them.

Re: General update on blocks - 06/06/13 07:58 PM

And as far as core shift.....

Its funny what people come up with for an excuse when they have to explain why they just sold every block they had in inventory.

The blocks we bought were ready for assembly at the factory....

Wonder what block the fastest 6.1 drag pak cars in the country are running.
Posted By: ZIPPY

Re: General update on blocks - 06/06/13 08:02 PM

insults can be fun, when they're done creatively and with good taste and a sense of humor

It is understandable how frustrating it can be just to find parts...to get ready for a big project, ready to lay down the money and all, then get stuck because the most important piece of the puzzle, the foundation for everything, is on intergalactic backorder.

Just did some more editing to the main list, things are looking pretty good for the most part.

Let's say that this is true. It does make sense to sell what you have for below market value, then produce more.
IIRC even IF they had bad core shift your warranty replacement is only good for one year.
Cheaper to use them then to cast new ones.

That wasnt in reference to you at all Zippy sir.

I just know enough of the back story that when we bought all the blocks that they had, a few months later they called us back and offered us another batch but at a higher price. We declined and they really did scrap those blocks.
