Going to give IHRA 10.90 (Hot Rod) racing a try at PRP - 05/28/13 05:08 PM

Pittsburgh Raceway Park has their 2 day IHRA divisional race this weekend so I am going to give it a try. I never liked watching the throttle stop classes but I am sure its like bracket racing, funner to do than it is to watch. I called Biondo racing to see what stop he would recommend and I ended up buying their electric under the carb stop. He said it would work with the Biondo Mega 85 that is already in the car. We have a test n tune Thursday so hopefully I can get some runs in to get the Duster slowed down from 10.20's to the 10.90 index for the class. We also will get some passes on Friday and a 50 dollar to enter 1500 dollar bracket race Friday night leading to Saturday and Sundays divisional race. Any tip on getting it set up are appreciated. Here is a link to the throttle stop I bought. I called IHRA today and paid for my Hot Rod number.

Are you running a tranny brake?

Go git em John!!!

I once was at Indy, only going there for Stock /SS, all by myself, and started watching the .90 classes cause I had nothing else to do...lol...so started studying a little closer, and once I started watching the math invlolved...and studying that closer...I was kind of taken in by it. I ended up finding two Mopars that were racing it, one was a guy named Scott Fitzgibbons out of Illinois, and the other was a girl with a black Challenger named Hillary Will. Yep, THAT Hillary. Ended up spending two or three days with the Wills, and watching their runs, videotaping for them and so forth. Paging and watching the last minute adjustments for the starting line...I had a ball.....and yes...I think the actual racing however will be a big challenge, and fun if you are into the math and technology of it, which is way more than people think...go have fun and good luck

Yes, I put a powerglide and tranny brake on my 408 a few years ago.

Thanks Todd. I would love to spend a few days with Hillary myself you lucky dog. I always enjoyed watching her race. I guess the old saying about teaching an old dog new tricks will be put to use this weekend. The weather looks hot but dry later in the week so hopefully I can get enough runs on Thursday and Friday to get the setting close. I was planning on going up to watch the Nitro Jam anyway so at least now I can take the motorhome and enjoy the weekend. Matt was asked to work at the track this weekend so it will work out nice for him too.

Thanks guys. I guess I am looking forward to this a little more than I thought. Especially after last weekend. I didn't even go up to PRP last Friday as I really don't enjoy racing in 30 degree weather any more. And when I went up to race on Saturday the sun was drawling all the rain water that we got earlier in the week up thru the asphalt so they canceled racing for the day. Guys were flying an getting new bests Friday night and Saturday was going to be fast too. Nice and cool with one heck of a tail-wind.

Sounds like a plan. Save me a spot and if you want to go ahead and buy me that pizza it won't hurt as bad when the Pittsburgh Pirates CHOKE.

I read that 2 times and will be doing it again as it has lots of good info. I hope it gets here tomorrow so I have a couple of days to get it installed. A good Friend of mine that took 2nd last year in the 8.90 class just asked me for my current time slip info and is going to make a call to someone he knows to try to get me in the ballpark. If I was rich I could buy a spot in a track rental that is taking place Thursday before their regular test n tune but the mattress is getting flatter by the second. Thanks for the well wishes and the help.

Info from a 10.90 racer would be very helpful....one thing I have always been told by....some very good .90 racers is once you set your on stop start setting don't mess with it....just adjust the amount of time your on the stop

10:20 - 10:90 your probably going to be on the stop instantly and a very short duration on the stop and in high gear when you come off the stop.

Super tough class with real good racers. Good luck. You are good enough and you will fit in just fine.

Thanks guys. Hoping the throttle stop gets here today so I can get it installed just in case I have to do some running for any extra install parts. These new adventures kinda supercharge you a little bit.

Re: Going to give IHRA 10.90 (Hot Rod) racing a try at PRP - 05/29/13 05:34 PM

Thank-you. I've tried to make racing all about having fun and that has probably kept me from being a better racer. I watch people taking it way to serious and taking a lot of the enjoyment out of it. A weekend at the track in the motorhome with good Friends, food, and making passes in the race car. What more could you ask for.
