Got a clearance problem with e curve distributor

Got a clearance problem with e curve distributor - 05/12/13 08:20 PM

I want to run a factory 70 air cleaner but it won't set down on the carb. My question is can I put a 1" spacer on a Edelbrock performer and still run,or will that kill my performance?

You wont know till you try it... but if the engine
is larger than stock it would most likely help it

will the air cleaner fit under the hood with the spacer?

Like Mr.P stated, every combo likes different things

I think it should fit but I will make sure it will before I buy one. I just did not know if it would hurt the motor performance. I hope it will work I like the 70 factory air cleaner.

E-brock have 1/2" spacers designed for dual plane intakes.
And they are cheap too.

I had to put the 1/2" spacer on my M1 with a 850dp to
clear the pump arm.... Summit sells them(cheap)

I think there is a little confusion here, The Op states his aircleaner won't sit on the carb,

So if i am correct he wants to put a spacer on top of the carb not under.

From what he was saying, he was looking at putting
a spacer under the carb to raise the carb and air
cleaner ... like its hitting the intake
because he asked if it would change the performance

I agree , he wouldn't be concerned with the spacer hurting performance if he put it on top of the carb ????

Based on the title of his post, I thought his air cleaner is hitting the distributor.
Anyway, I have my doubts that a 1" spacer on a Performer manifold will fit under a stock ebody hood. It won't fit under mine.

I had a eddy airgap on my challenger with a stock flat hood and a drop base aircleaner and it was fine how much shortet is the performer then the air gap

The way i read the ops question was can i put a 1" spacer on my performer i thought he was taking about an eddy carb but i guess he could mean the intake as well

The OP, or yourself, hasn't said what engine is in the car ?

I was thinking (assuming) a big block when he mentioned a performer intake. My case is a 440. No room for a 1" spacer on 440 with a performer intake, readily available after market air cleaner, and a stock Cuda hood.

Re: Got a Clarence problem with e curve distributor - 05/13/13 09:42 PM

This is a small block and I want to put it under the carb to raise the air cleaner. I may run into the hood with the air cleaner. I am going to get it together and running with a smaller air cleaner then when I get the hood on it. I will see how much room I have to work with.

Might be easier with a spacer on top of the carb....

Yes it would be easier that way but if he puts a spacer
under the carb it should give a power increase at the
same time(thats a 2 fer 1)

I had a pool going on how many replies there would be before we got to the first Clarence joke.
