Help with Valve Body ID - 04/20/13 06:32 PM

Picked up a used 727 valve body. Previous owner is not sure of brand but says it is a reverse manual. Could I get some help with the ID?

It has a red separator plate with 1218 stamped in it. Not alot of other info on it. I have more pics & it's apart for a thorough cleaning.

looks like a TCI

It does look like a TCI but I've noticed others use the red plate as well. John Cope's are red too. Want to make sure I set the trans up correctly to match the manufacturer's instructions.

Also, is there an easy way to tell whether it really is a reverse manual?

If it is a manual VB there will be some holes in the rear of the red plate that aren't used (pic doesn't show rear).

Also the throttle valve will be jammed wide open (there won't be any spring feedback when turning the throttle lever shaft).

John, long shot but you wouldn't have a diagram for a manual valve body. I took it apart to clean it. Figured I could use my 727 books to reassemble as I've done with stockers. Kind of jammed myself up as there are several differences & I'm not sure it'll work.

I believe the 1218 is the same as a 1217, but it is a transbrake with external solenoid that screws into the neutral safety switch threaded hole. Old design. You don't show a solenoid or push rod, so they may be missing.

Ya, no solenoid or rod was included. I'll have to call TCI in the morning to see if they can ID it & send me a schematic for it.

Hopefully I'll be able to still use it even if the transbrake pieces are missing.
