W8 flow #'s....

W8 flow #'s.... - 04/16/13 12:58 AM

Got a set of W8 heads here for Jay's engine build. They came from Brett with his ports, Ti valves, and PSI springs.
On a 4.125 bore they do this:

Lift Int. Ex.
200 130 109
300 204 160
400 275 207
500 337 237
600 381 253
700 404 263
750 406 266
800 406 269

Not too shabby for a Pa. boy

Bretts stuff is awsome. He does such nice work and is just a great guy to deal with. Your stuff will fly!!!

Thanks Brian for taking the time to flow heads to compare benches.

This should be fun build.

Re: W8 flow #'s.... - 04/16/13 01:41 AM

Would those numbers improve dramatically with a 4.155 bore ?
Or bigger ?
One issue we had to confront with my W-9's was shrouding the intake with a 4.125 bore.
My guy did some chamber work to alleviate this , but I think the next couple bore sizes will work better. This is with 2.15 & 1.6 valves.

Yes they are Jay's heads. 434 cid. As long as we can make more than 500HP I think we're good

Re: W8 flow #'s.... - 04/16/13 05:44 AM

10's anywhere.... that's all I want. Heck they're W8's..... that's only 3 better than a W5 isn't it??

I thought we'd try the 528 mechanical since we will rev it to at least 5000rpm

Re: W8 flow #'s.... - 04/16/13 06:28 PM

Great flow numbers. What are the real expectations? With that kind of flow, it out to rock.
Posted By: J_BODY

Re: W8 flow #'s.... - 04/16/13 08:09 PM

Expectations will most likely be hampered by under prepared car.... but we'll work through that. Car has been caged so we were looking ahead somewhat. Ladder bar, tube K, 11.5 tire, 4:30 gear which probably needs to be 4:88, a couple torque converters from our W5 combo that will probably have to be replaced or reconfigured. It'll be interesting:)

Re: W8 flow #'s.... - 04/17/13 01:22 AM

Now we need to work on 420 intake.

How fast you want to go? Brian Smiths car just went 8.61 157 mph at 2800lbs with less head than you have.

Re: W8 flow #'s.... - 04/18/13 01:09 AM

I really need to get ahold of that guy in Havasu that has those parts.... I know he's got some 420 intakes in 4150 and 4500 configuration..... that or we'll just make some spacers for the 598 I got from you.

Re: W8 flow #'s.... - 04/18/13 05:17 AM

You got plenty of tire for that little ole SB...Heck we only use 10.5" of tire on our fast car, and lord knows it is WAY heavier

I think you just need to sell me all that fancy race stuff. I think we can put it to good use

That intake looks familiar.......

Sure hope my little street car will hang with you, Jay.

What sizes camshaft are you running in these motors and what name brand???? Just wondering if a 280@50 and 720 on both sides would be a good camshaft for a 800 hp motor??
Posted By: W5DART66

Re: W8 flow #'s.... - 04/19/13 02:06 PM

you can make 800HP with this head with a 258* at .050" intake lobe and .750" to .800" lift

What block are you using? Does Jay have a cam yet? What rods?

How fast should this car go?? Or would like to go??
Posted By: clonestocker

Re: W8 flow #'s.... - 04/20/13 04:38 PM

I think Jay will put a 2BBL on it so it runs 9.90's
Posted By: Otherlane

Re: W8 flow #'s... - 04/21/13 02:38 AM

So 9.70 with a 4bbl carb and super ported Ld340 intake??

Well the car has gone 9.87 at 137 with a far less potent combo so I think it will be an interesting learning curve for sure. Honestly we sold off another W5 top end in anticipation of the Ebrock Super Victors coming out....which we would have still been waiting for. Was talking with Jesse, he told me to call Brett, Brett sold me a set of old Craftsman truck heads ready to rock, and once again, we're building a combo around a set of heads. Maxed out deal?? naw.... but I think it will be an interesting combo and I hope the learning curve isn't too long.

Engine should be done in a couple of weeks, then headers get built then back here for the dyno session. Just in time for Christmas maybe...

Re: W8 flow #'s.... - 10/14/13 05:35 AM

Which Christmas?? ...got the motor dropped in, mounts made, going to make the call tomorrow to see about getting the headers finished! ..still not sure about the 904 or the 727.

...trying despirately to get the old 360 running to dial the car in with!
