BG Fuel regulator

BG Fuel regulator - 04/09/13 10:13 PM

Put a new BG fuel regulator on the car and I can not get the pressure below 12 pounds. What started this problem was I had a fuel pump problem that the pump was running at full pressure and the regulator and gages were peged. I change the fuel pump and that was the main issue with the way to much pressure.Stuck relief valve. Question does the ball inside of the regulator seat against the fitting in main in port in the bottom of the regulator or against the inside tower part of the regulator? Its a 2 port BG tower style regulator. Yes I am running the motor when I am setting the pressure.

My Bg fuel regulator almost cost me an engine. A BG400 pump puts out over 24 pounds in the rear and when my regulator went from 7 pounds to 24 during a run it almost washed the rings out. I lucked out and after a few passes the rings resealed. JUNK IT.

The fuel pump is only a 140 gph and I can not believe it puts more than 15 to 20 pounds fuel pressure. The regulator is brand new and it cost $$$. I beleive you about the fuel spike because it happen to a race buddie of mine that put a 280 or bigger pump on his car and did the same thing that happened to you.He had a AREO?? regulator.

BG EVERYTHING sucks imo................Has Berry Grant ever even gone 1-2 rounds in pro stock w/his junk?

NO!!!!!!!!!! HE may suck but my problem is too much pressure

I'm cheap and this is new and who will buy it because you guys say they suck and if I can't sell it I have to use it.

I've used those for quite a while. Make sure the outlet fitting isn't touching the pintle. There is actually a BG spec for minimun clearance.

Bookmark this page if you think you may need parts to rebuild your regulator. There isn't much to them and when my BG400 needed rebuilt I bought the parts off him to do the job. Part kits were cheap so I bought a spare.

If I recall, they sold a special fitting for in that regulator. Nothing more than a shortened standard AN fitting.

Thats what I thought too. Does the ball seat in the regulator houseing or against the AN fitting? Thanks for the parts page.

The fitting has a larger i.d. Measure what's avail, against the spec. Hard to find one that's not too small.

This problem is usually solved by modifying the INLET or pipe thread end that screws into the regulator by verifying that the i.d. is a minimum of .531 dia.This is the size of the Barry Grant fitting.
