Timeslip, 1st Drag Strip, 2009 Challenger R/T 5.7 - 04/08/13 03:02 AM

I finally got my 2009 Challenger R/T (5.7) to the drag strip for the first time today. I bought this car used in Nov 2011. I really went to the track today to help a buddy with his 572 Hemi Daytona, but that is another story.

2009 R/T automatic, leather interior, premium sound, spare tire, full tank of 92 octane fuel, 230 lb driver.

Mods:
Replaced factory exhaust with cat-back from 6.4 (392) SRT. Still has 2009 R/T 5.7 head pipes and cats.
Oil catch can
K&N factory fit air filter
SRT intake tube (no resonance chamber) and airbox
180 degree Jet thermostat
ESP factory switch OFF (rolled into throttle)
factory tires, 27 psi rear, 32 psi front (32 psi door sticker)

DiabloSport tune:
91 Octane CAI
6400 Rev Limiter
6200 Shift Point settings (left in "1" manual position)
Fans set at 188/195 degrees
Shift firmness "increased"

Timeslip attached. 2.012 sixty foot, 13.42 at 105.2 mph
I am very happy with these results. It took some practice (6 passes) to figure out how to leave the starting line for a good reaction time and not spin the tires to shreds!

That's cool for a 4200 + air condition street car

Congrats on the outing. I love my new Challenger. That's about what my SRT ran the 1st time I ran it. They really need more tire on them to get any kind of sixty foot.

creature comforts, electronics, safety (crash) regulations...

power windows, seats, etc, all those little electric motors are quite heavy

the amount of wiring in new cars is insane, easily 10x the amount compared to a car in the mid 60's...and copper ain't especially light

good, try the 93 tune. It did wonders for my old 06 AWD Magnum R/T. I tried different shift points but found 6200 was just as good as 6400. Were you able to tune out the "lag" from the drive-by-wire? That was very tricky for me to get used to. Forget about cutting a good light.

In January I bought a pair of 9.5" wide rims planning to put some M&H drag radials on the car. However, with the federal worker furloughs coming I might not spend the money on the tires this year.
20% less pay for 14 weeks adds up... $$$$$
I hope the Dart doesn't need anything this summer or racing may come to a stop.

A converter and drag radials would make a huge difference. I bet the converter would help with the drive by wire issues. I would think mid 12's with a converter and drag radials

Geat times! That is awesome! The best I could ever get out of my 6 speed was a 13.9! I could never get that figured out.

true...there was a guy on one of the newer charger forums with an AWD charger that put I think a 3000 stall converter in his 2011 charger, and he dropped 3-4 tenths in the quarter, and was running 13.30's after the mod...his only other performance mods were a cat back and intake, which don't add much (maybe 10-15 RWHP)....this was before the computer was cracked....not bad for a 4400 lb beast....

oh, and to who asked if the camaro and mustang are this heavy,

challengers are listed at 3834 for the V6, 4082 for the R/T, 4160 for the SRT8.

the ZL1 camaro V6 is 3780lbs, SS is 3860lbs, ZL1 is 4050 lbs

mustang V6 coupe curb weight is 3523/3501 (auto/man), GT coupe is 3675/3618 auto/man, GT500 is 3852lbs, conv is about 120lbs heavier in all cases...

I planned to put my 2009 Challenger R/T on the track scale, but it was broke and although they were working on it, they never got it up and working. My friend wanted to weigh his 572 Hemi Daytona also as it was his first time with it. I expect his is around 2300 lbs (old pro stock chassis), and mine is likely over 4100 with the leather interior and spare tire options... plus add my 230 lbs and 4400 race weight is not out of the question.
