Engine diaper - 03/31/13 02:02 AM

OK guys, almost time for another year of racing! I want to do a little traveling this year so I am trying to cover all of my bases in regards to chassis certification and SFI equipment. For the most part everything is covered my one issue is an engine diaper. My car has an engine plate with the stock K member. I am running an aluminum rear sump oil pan with the center link passing throught it. The pan also has the duel line Milodon setup in it. Have any of you guys had a diaper made for this setup? I know of Dennis Ridgeway and Champion but, I would like to hear any recommendations and experiances.

I am listening to this too. Considering diaper or belly pan with sides. Beep

I have a Russeleri Diaper. I know these have been bad mouthed here in the past. Is it ballistic material, no. Does it have plastic clips, yes. Does it fit my Charlies pan? I sent a diagram of my pan, it fits near perfect. My feeling is that parts aren't "shot out' during a failure in most instances. If the absorbent contains most of the oil, it's done it's job. Hope I don't need it, but at least I have some protection at a reasonable price. Is it 3/2A-5 material, no. How many of you wear 3/2A-5 pants?

We have the DRE diaper. I had to send the pan to Dennis for the proper fit. Our's is a full length dragster pan, kick out, oil temp sender, oil level window, center link tube, external oil system and engine limiter. Had one burn-through that Dennis fixed for free by adding more heat resistant material. Due to the length of the diaper, it sagged, so I added a piece of Masonite under the absorbent material.

I used to race all the divisionals and 3 or 4 nationals every yr in div 7 Super Gas. When they teched the car they checked everything. As they should, and shame on you if your SFIs were not up to date. I do have a brother that races in div 2 and he tells me they have never teched his car...6.6s in the 1/8. Says the only cars they tech are the pro mod guys. This kind of irritates me, When I was younger it seemed kinda neat to see what you could get away with, But as I have aged, I now fully understand why these rules are in place. Most of them are written in blood my fellow racers...I have seen some really bad wrecks in my 35 years of racing, Most have walked away...a few didn't. So the next time you ask about getting away with a rule that is in place for your safety, I want you to look in the mirror the night before a race and ask yourself if you have done everything you possibly could to be safe in your car, no matter how fast it is. Good luck and on to the next round!

DRE will work with you and make you a diaper that fits like a glove.
