summit racing muffers - 03/09/13 10:41 PM

Anyone try a set of these ?

Just want something to quit it down at idle. Don;t need to break the bank right now.. Done spend too much fixing the motor.

Re: summit racing muffers - 03/09/13 11:14 PM

Re: summit racing muffers - 03/10/13 01:09 AM

I have the 3 in. Dynomax race bullets that are 18 in long on mine and it is way to loud. Not much quieter than open exhaust.

I run the DynoMax Ultra Flo's with TTi X-Pipe
very quiet

Another to check out is the Pypes Race mufflers. Tolerable and relatively cheap.

My kid runs the cheapies on his 62 300.They come right off the cutouts. While not quiet they do cut the noise quite a bit. When I uncap my 440 straight I can hear his car running. He runs 3 inch exit in front of the rear wheels. He even drives it on the street and no problems from the cops.Rocky

Re: summit racing muffers - 03/10/13 04:10 PM

heres what i'm using this year.
Extreme racing mufflers are similar to borla xr1 in design, but just about half the cost.

Re: summit racing muffers - 03/10/13 04:19 PM

Paint job ? street car ? it has always been a street car..heck was not supost to be race car to start with. You know how that goes. No paint job here !
I going to try the bullets. if I like having them on the car .I buy a better set next year. I just would like to hear if there any noises in the motor at idle..

Re: summit racing muffers - 03/10/13 04:37 PM

i used the bullets but i had a h-pipe and turn downs, really at idle was not that loud, may be different just putting on the end of headers but i think you could still hear engine noises.

Tony, are these the summit ones you are talking about? are they straight through like the bullets? Or is there material inside of them? They are cheaper than comparable sized bullets, and I wanted to pull the trigger on them but was not sure if they are the same design or if they will choke up power

Re: summit racing muffers - 03/12/13 06:23 PM

Those aren't going to quiet anything.. I run the their cheap "tubos" and they aren't too quiet. Here is an external clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPPjBNwdHfA

Sorry, I should have been more specific about what I meant...My buddy has the dynomax bullets, and you can see right through them...Another guy I know has bullets, but there is what looks like a mesh screen over the inlet and outlet, and they are not dynomax from what I know....Are the summits like the dynomax, or do they have this "mesh" inside them?

Cool, you have me convinced and just saved me $20 a muffler trying these instead of the dynomax LOL

Re: summit racing muffers - 03/13/13 03:08 AM

I'm currently running the Summit bullets. They keep my car legal (I'm pretty sure you must have mufflers to pass inspection here in Texas, which they *technically* are), and they don't choke up the exhaust at all (yes, you can see straight through them). They may quiet up the exhaust a little, but not as far as I can tell.

Re: summit racing muffers - 03/13/13 03:14 PM

I run Summit 2 1/2x12 in my tailpipes behind magnaflows. Quiet but I suspect they will slow the car. I got them to eliminate the drone.

I run the 3" version on my street 64. 413/Mopar 509 cam/headers/h-pipe/turn-downs by the door.

They are quieter than open pipes. No problems with cops. And it is nice to be just a little louder than all the jokers around here in the 5.0 rustangs.

My only complaint is that (at least on my setup) at high RPMs, it is a little metallic sounding for my taste. As a pose to being more throaty.

The Hooker Maxflow made the best power while still being very quiet at idle/2000rpm, but nice and loud at WOT. The Bassani Real Street also made nice power without being too loud. Anybody have any feedback on these mufflers?

Re: summit racing muffers - 03/16/13 02:12 PM

I'm using the summit glasspacks as resonators on mine.

my truck had just the chambered "powersticks" at first, and while I loved the aggressive sound, the way it would crackle at high RPM, and under WOT, it would resonate and drone at cruise speeds. I added a single 12" glass pack behind the powersticks.

idle was noticeably quieter, the higher frequencies were toned down, and the overall sound was lower, deeper it's still pretty loud at WOT, but the drone is gone.
