I wouldn't spend a ton of money on one for a car that made good power and had decent traction

Me too
I'm building a period pro Stock Barracuda with an actual Motown Hemi so a magnesium Dana kind of fits the bill for me.
I'm sure Sox & Martin used them as well (ask Fred) & many were actually marked "Ramchargers" so they do have some great Mopar history.

From what I have heard is they were originally used in the Funny cars, but for what ever reason the funny car guys didn't like then and the Pro-Stock guys did and started to use them, but again that is what I heard.

They already are. Down at the IMIS show a vendor had a brand new aluminium Dana. Didn't even have a price for it yet.

Not much from what I remember maybe 15 lb but the mag unit is much stouter and has beefier supports. They were all cast by Henry'sh some using the RAMCHARGERS rear cover. Intended for funny cars when released.
