R3 block 9.6 Deck vs 9.0 - 02/25/13 03:23 AM

I currently have a 9.0 deck r3 block W8 motor and was wanting to go to a 9.2 or 9.6 block to get a longer stroke. I was wondering what parts will not fit on the taller deck blocks?

Thank you

Potentially pistons.......unless you get a rod that equals the increased deck height and the bores match.
Pushrods.
Intake.
That's about it I think.

Thanks for the reply.. Are the timing covers / chain the same? Do they make an intake for W8 heads that will work on the tall deck block? If not who would be a good resource to make spacers?

I have both blocks on the shelf if you need one

Those tall deck MP timing covers require grinding to clear the heads....

Not if you increase the stroke exactly .300". Then you can use the same rods and pistons. More than likely you will want to lengthen the rod a little also giving up some stroke.

Timing chain is the same. You must have a modified or short deck timing cover now. A stock one will work with the 9.6 deck block. So that is no big deal.

This is pretty simple everthing is the same except the deck on the block. So intake manifold has to be wider, valley pan has to be wider. Pushrods have to be .600" longer if you run the same lifter and camshaft base circle. The timing cover or belt drive plate will have to be taller. It is really pretty simple.

Brett Miller has spacers so u CAN use the shortdeck manifold u have on a talldeck.

What size are the main bearings and cam bearings in your 9.00 block? Of course if you don't have a cam or crank yet it would not matter.
