Big Block Rods

Looking for a rod for my RB build spinning up to 7500rpm. We were going to use Manley's H beam rod, but it now looks like they've been discontinued. I've been hearing back and fourth about K1's quality so I don't know what to think about them at the moment. Searching around I came across a forged I beam from Howards Cams rated up to 1000hp part number BR6760. The rod looks good, atleast on paper, but I'm waiting to hear back from Howards about the rod width.

So, has anyone used this rod or had any experience with them?

Directions have changed a bit and the motor will be going in a bracket car.

looking back over a few of your posts I see your spraying your motor, which with my understanding of NOS would probably add to the stress on the rod, right? How many passes have you put on the new rods? Have you torn down since installing them? Do you know how they checked out ootb? So far the only downside I see to the rods is the 1.07" big end width, but I'm waiting to hear back from Howards to see what they measure as well.

of the two rods mentioned here i'd use the howards before the eagles. though i don't really like aluminum rods they've come a LONG way and afaik some of the newer offerings are pretty good pieces however they're no longer inexpensive like they used to be.

Do you have to use a Chrysler rod? Chevy rods are less money for higher quality parts. It would pay to grind the crank so you can run a Chevy rod.

No passes on these new ARP 2000 rods yet. We have been using the Eagle rods below these with the 8740 rod bolts for the last few seasons. No problems. Measured great after this last season. Upgraded to the new rods for peace of mind because we are turning up the power in 2013.

New rods are currently at machine shop. They should be getting measured this week.

Lots of guys running Eagle rods with quite a bit more horsepower than I make, with a lot more nitrous than I am spraying.

Spinning an RB that high I'd be looking at Crower or Oliver I beams... I run Manley in mine but it only sees 7000.

I recommend Oliver pro billet rods... We spin the 557" to 8,100 rpm at the traps!

Andy will be talking about all chev dimension rods and run with the extra side clearance on the big end. That will be how you get a good rod at a good price.

Thats what i thought. Didnt see a way to fix the side clearance. But.....its Andy....never know....

Opens up alot of rod length options.

At the moment we're still wanting to keep the side clearance in check so I'd like to stick with a Chrysler sized rod. As for aluminum, this is my first race motor so I'm just not sure that's a good direction to go.

I have been running the Ohio Crankshaft I-beam rod in my 499" since 2008. I am happy with them and they were good out of the box. I did have them checked.

Really no reason to worry about rod side clearances, the oil is metered out through the annular space between bearing and journal. The side clearances on a stock Chrysler setup are much larger and being downstream, contribute zero to oil control.

If I had all the money in the world I'd go with Crower or Oliver. It'd probably be a custom rod to match your desires. Crower can make any rod you want, just tell them what and throw money at them.

I am running a set of 440 source h beam rods with arp2000 bolts in my .055" over 440. 7200 shift and stripe. They have been 7600 before when first changing to alcohol. 749 grams which at the time was over a 120ish grams lighter then the manleys and eagles weren't much different than that. Had them checked when new. They were a little on the tight side. Been in one engine that I had too much timing in and cracked the block due to detonation and all but one was fine after that. Resized and back in new block. Been running since 2009 with limited scheduled/finances with a couple hundred passes. Been very happy so far with budget in mind for the racing I get to do.

Let the 440 source haters have at it.
