Indy 360-3 intake T-Stat housing - 01/06/13 03:20 PM

Posted this in Q&A, no response.

I'm swapping from an M1 to an Indy Intake on my Magnum based 408, what T-Stat housing is going to fit? One from an LA intake?

Bolt center on the Indy is 3.25".

Thanks

I used a regular chrome mopar housing on mine, which everyone said would leak but it hasn't

440 Source makes a billetz one too for 25.00, but I don't know the bolt spread. Guess it's the same for early LA and big blocks, 3.25".

I had the mr gasket one and it was fine no leaks and cheap.I bought a black csr one w the swivel so i could aim it and match the color of my motor. The csr one does have an oring.Neither leak.

Ive heard that its the chrome on the face of the mating surface that causes the leaks, not the neck itself.

They will interchange, but if you plan to run a thermostat that's where they are different. IIRC the mopar housing has a relief for the thermostat and the SBC has relief milled into the intake.

Good info Rod! I am running a t-stat, so I guess I will have to stay with the leaky stuff....My Mr. Gasket mopar one needed a ton of RTV to finally not leak

Mine leaked because it would warp. I had two and filed them flat on a regular basis. They were mounted with studs and torqued to spec. They warped anyway. Bought the o-ringed neck and no leaks to date. Been 4 years now.

Soooo....

It's been established it needs to be O-ringed, but which one is?

Are you going to run a thermostat?

Nope

Re: Indy 360-3 intake T-Stat housing - 01/07/13 12:40 AM

Then the SBC will work.

Since it's SBC it'll be free right?

Thanks for the help.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but does anyone know which mopar t-stat housings do use the O-ring for sure??? I run a stat in my LA, so it looks like the chevy one can't work for me
