Proportioning valve: where to install it? - 12/14/12 05:30 PM
Hi!
I have a wilwood adjustable proportioning valve that I plan to install on my race car.
My race car is about 3000 lbs automatic, with a HEMI.
I have front wilwood drag discs up front with 10.75" rotors and dr. diffs rear discs out back with 10,7" rotors.
I know the proportioning vlave is always installed on the rear brake line on street cars.....
But I was wondering if on a race car, equipped with front skinnies (I run 27" x 4,5") and rear slicks (I run 33" x 10,5"w) this would have to change??? Should I put the proportioning valve up front to prevent the front tires to lock out since they are so narrow?
Thanks!

OK! Thanks for the advice.
One more qustion though out of curiosity: I have read before about people putting bigger rotors and better calipers out back when running big slicks because they said bigger tires have more innertia and they need better braking power then the light and small front skinnies.
What do you say about this?

jajajajajjajajajajajajaaajajaj
OK OK OK!
Will do as you say. I dont want to make any of my runs "memorable" due to brake related issues!!!!!!
Thanks for the advice!

Domingo just curious, what size master cylender are you running?. My Dart is 3260# street/strip and has a 1 1/32 bore mc on it and stops great but I wish it had a 1" bore instead. It has Strange brakes on the front and Wilwoods on the rear. The proportioning valve is in the rear line but is wide open.

1 1/32"
we'll see how i like it.
A smaller diameter will give you a lighter pedal feel, but more travel....

If I understand it correctly the larger bore gives you less pressure and travel, I know mine doesn't travel very far.
Bob I messed with the adjustments when I installed the valve and it doesn't take much closing to make it hard to stop. With it wide open the car just sits down and has never locked up the tires, front or rear. I will at some point try a 1" bore to lessen the pedal effort and raise the pressure.

The large bore gives you more volume, the orfices where the lines go in the MC acts as the pressure control. The smaller the orfice the less fluid and higher pressure. This is where the % ratings come from.Disc brakes with large or dual pucks take more volume to fill and the resivours for the front are usually larger than the back and also on Chrysler MCs the back port is the front brakes. Many times problems are created when a aftermarket valve is used with a OEM valve. We remove the OEM and seperate front and rear systems with the new valve on the back brakes.
