Turbo Small Block E-Body Help - 11/27/12 05:50 PM

With all the chat around here about turbo’s I’m thinking about building a nice 408 small block with a turbo for street / strip use.

My dilemma is that I don’t want to cut the fender wells up.

If anyone can post pictures of E-body’s with a nice clean turbo set-up and detail I would appreciate it.

Jim

Search for "instigator"

He was somewhere on the east coast and had a gold turbo SB e-body.

I don't have any completed pics of mine yet. Still gathering parts for the build. But I am going to be trying to do the same with this in my E-Body. (Twins with a 2ND Gen HEMI though).

Sorry, no pics of an E body bay, but if you get a game plan down before you start doing anything and plan ahead, it'll turn out nice. I only had to do very minimal cutting on my Coronet to make everything fit by thinking it through first.

John - I picked up a 8 3/4 3.91 pig from you a year ago at Robs shop, you showed me your car then and I've been thinking about a turbo ever since. Are you still at Rob's?

No, not at robs anymore. Turbos are the way to go for a street car, I love the way mine turned out. It's quiet, docile on the street and it gets down pretty good.

Depending on how fast you want to go you don't really need headers. Small block truck manifolds get the job done on Dizusters 10 second B-Body. He cut the inner fender only to hide the air filter. I drove this thing on the street on Thanksgiving. First gear is useless even with a 2.76 gear.

Big primiaries for a turbo app are not needed unless you are turning some rpms or have huge displacement... I see he is using a W5 so he may turn some rpms..

I use a pair of stainless shorties flipped.

I'll add unless you already have the 408 built, you don't need it. 340-360" is more than enough with pressure and the smaller engine makes the turbo(s) cheaper and more often than not, better fitting into the compressor map: i.e. a 340" engine running 15psi has more good fitting turbos available to it than a 408" @ 6-8psi.
