Hemi Cuda Progress - 11/19/12 11:37 PM

Not sure what happened to my original post, but heres a little update...

Still Progressing slowly, at least motor is buttoned up, manifold still not finalised.

Bit of re routing of fuel lines, fuel pump, filter & rad lines, nothing to major.

Fuel pump drive now modified & finished, with expected delivery tomorrow night. (Thanks Steve :thumbright: )

Once pump is finished can complete all fuel lines. Headers & Turbo’s will have to come off to get exhausts coated, but wanted to plumb the turbos, waste gates, etc or at least run lines in readiness.

Still tons to go . .

Anyways, here’s a few pics . . .

Hi Rich,
I have switched to Motec, & Coil on Plug, I forget the coil brand I was recommended, but can get info if needed.

I mainly switched, as more folks here I know here are running Motec, better support opportunity.

Don't worry I'm watching your build

Re: Hemi Cuda Progress - 12/30/12 12:33 AM

Well been a while since I had an update, that being said I was in China for 3 weeks before Christmas, then Christmas, so the time soon dissapears

Nothing too exciting, pictures should tell the story

Finally got round to fitting the front tyres to the new rims, thanks to some additional support from Jerry. Wasnt that bad of a job & not a tyre lever in sight

Managed to score a bit of titanium, so used it for making the coil brackets. Didn't need to be titanium, but matched the throttle bracket. Still need to punch some holes in the them, just need to borrow a swage punch or what ever their called.
Throttle also working now

The plumbing is still on going, but nearing the end
My mate Steve turned me up a new fuel pump drive, which I collected today. The original drive bolted to the front pulley & was spacing pulley to far away.

Fuel pump mounted (Was a lot quicker to type than physically do )
Need to sort out a longer belt

Few other general plumping jobs done; Oil pump to Filter, Accumulator, Oil feed for turbos, etc, etc

Re: Hemi Cuda Progress - 12/31/12 05:09 AM

Looks great

I would question the MSD alternator, I went through 4 in one year, maybe they don't like RPM ??. I have a powermaster alternator and its been good for 3 years now spinning it to 16,000 RPM .
Posted By: mopar_mark

Re: Hemi Cuda Progress - 12/31/12 11:00 AM

Thanks for the kind comments

Not sure on HP, I'm guessing around 1,800 - 2,000hp

I had the opposite with the alternator, my Power master lasted 2-3 months on the blown motor, I switched to the MSD and no issues, that being said, I haven't tried it on the new combo.

Waiting for some paint to dry, so thought I would post a couple of pics from down in the garage . . .

Only a couple of brackets, but all the little jobs count. Still making use of my Titanuim off cuts, think I'm getting addicted

Boost Controller

Overhead Switch Panel

Thats all for now
Posted By: rickseeman

Re: Hemi Cuda Progress - 01/08/13 05:19 PM

I love that type of overhead switch panel, but there is a problem. If the throttle hangs wide open (like happened to me last year, and a girl at the track with an Avenger) you have to be able to kill the ignition in the blick of a eye without looking. Things are going to be happening very fast at that point. You need a toggle switch. Something you can bat at and never miss. Maybe you could use a Lokar in car cut-off. (You would like one anyway.) I was lucky, no damage. The girl totaled the Avenger and spent 6 months having operations to put her back together. Her husband bought her another Avenger and she will be racing soon.

Re: Hemi Cuda Progress - 01/26/13 10:02 PM

Gradually working through the extensive list of jobs

Made up new front n rear polycarbonate screens, not screwed in, as it makes access easier at the moment.

Plumbed 80% of Intercooler to Ice box, progress halted due to waiting for fittings, but these arrived this week, so thats the job for tomorrow or tonight if I get off the PC. My excuse is that I am letting my dinner go down

Dropped of trans to Frosty last week. As good as old box was, it wasn't up to handling more hp on a regular basis. Basically upgraded shafts n gears, along with changing Convertor stator n bits & pieces . . .

When I dropped the box off to Frosty. Andy was also kind enough to donate a Tial BOV which he was no longer using

Finished off coil mounting brackets today, a lot of work for something that doesn't really do anything

New fuel pump belt arrived, so now fitted, along with completing the Oil pump to filter oil pipe.

Finally got round to removing exhaust/headers, added another bung (Thanks for welding Paul), as I intend to run Lambda's & dropped off exhaust for coating on Friday. Should be done in 2 weeks.

Still waiting on a few fuel fittings, but shipment delayed, as waiting for rear wheels to be despatched. Not holding up me up, as there always seems to be plenty to do

Rick,
Thanks for the advice.

I have an in car cable connected to the rear kill switch, for when that day arrives

Re: Hemi Cuda Progress - 02/18/13 12:56 AM

Well, I am gradually working through my 'To Do' list

Inter Cooler Ice box now fully plumbed & tested, no leaks

Headers now coated

Modified wiper system, as old system was interfering with the I/Cooler pipe work. Not much to see, but took a few hours of today.

The bits of cut off pipe you see in the pic, are from the old dash. I'm waiting for some 1/4" tubing, then will mount new dash

Inter Cooler pipe work installed, had to remake all the 'O' rings, as I wasnt happy with what was supplied

Finally finished all the fuel system pipe work, probably looks the same as before . . .

Mark, got the message. You will love our coil packs. Those are the same we are petitioning NHRA to allow for Fuel cars. Already allowed in Sportsman and ProMod. We'll get there. Just makes more sense. I'll turn you wires around almost immediately. I have the same heads and covers, but unfortunately up in Michigan. I believe we will need different tubes and hats, correct? Before you send them, can you trial-fit the assembly to try to see if they will even reach the spark plug? Here are my covers. Had some bling put on.

Here are the specs on my heads. 2.25 /1.90 ss Manley valves severe duty, Manley 10 degree Titanium

Yes Mick, Polycarbonate is acceptable material for an MOT, as long as visibility is not impaired, which the same rules apply for a glass screen.

Re: Hemi Cuda Progress - 04/15/13 09:06 PM

Not much happening engine wise at the moment, as waiting for car to be rewired, although gearbox n converter all installed, trans oil lines connected to oil cooler.

So onto a bit of badly needed body repair...

Partially due to some rust & from when I ripped the rear quarter when trying some different rims a couple of years ago

A mate of mine came round the garage today & fitted both panels. It's nice when you come home from work, to see some progress

Most of the filler will be gone, after final sanding

Posted By: mopar_mark

Re: Hemi Cuda Progress - 05/31/13 12:09 AM

Finally was able to see n touch my new rear rims, when I was in the States last week. I ordered these back in Jan time & been sitting in my mates for months. Should be here next week

Rear quarter panel now all complete & painted, very happy, although got some overspray to sort out

Finally got a date for taking car for a complete re wire & new F/Inj loom at Jon W. I do most things, but me & wiring don’t get on. I did it myself when it was purely a track car, but was never happy.

All being well, should be complete early July. Roll on the Mopar Nats

Here’s some of the overspray

Yes, full length system, it's a street car

Apart from the headers, it's pretty much the same exhaust system I ran previously. I may be able to reduce the last pair of ex boxes, as I am hoping the turbos will make the engine sound quieter & to make fitting of wheelie bars easier....

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments

I collected the car from Jon's last Tuesday after having the car fully rewired & the Motec all hooked up. I am very pleased, although I have got some its to sort out.

Mainly related to insufficient fuel pressure when cranking. I have got a few things to try to hopefully cure the problem. Although I will most likely fit an elec pump purely for priming, starting purposes.

Engine now runs, but still to be mapped for boost. ( thanks to Dave Rowe)

Got the front & rear screens fitted today, thanks to Jerry with his acrobatic skills in juggling his body round the funny car cage to fit the lower rear screen nuts

Photos are from my phone rather than camera, so quality not so good...

Door windows

Front screen in, wipers now fitted

After a bit of a clean up, still got inside to do....

Stainless mesh added to grill, to help keep large pieces of debris away

Gills & side markers fitted
