Will I achieve my goal?

Will I achieve my goal? - 11/03/12 12:38 PM

In my other thread,I mentioned that my old MP heads flow 299 @.700. The new MW Victors will be around 360 @ .700. The best I have run is a 10.40. How close will I get to my goal of 10.0? Let the guessing begin!! Thanks!! Ted

Do you have a cam to support them and do you have enough compression?

Re: Will I achieve my goal? - 11/03/12 02:58 PM

Ted I hope you go a 10.000 as I wish you good luck. Your car already runs great. One reason I did not consider the Victors was the extra things to go with the offset rockers and all as thats why I went with the EZ's but the Victors work very good from what I hear. So if you have the funds they are well worth it. Good luck , Ron

Re: Will I achieve my goal? - 11/03/12 03:18 PM

Who knows Ted, It all depends on where the resriction is on your current engine. If your heads where not the resriction then you could put predators on it no change to speak of. Change induction and cam with those predators and raise RPM 1000-2000 and hang on. I think it was hot rod mag that showed this in spades if people would really look at things. They took a ls motor hopped up a little and lots of different cylinder heads each one pretty much increasing air flow. By the time they had about the thrid head on it that engine peaked and after that the higher and higher flowing head showed no improvement. Now had they change intake or cam or both to eliminate where the restriction the power band would have continued to climb. If your old heads were restricting the power at the RPM you turn it then the power will be better but only to where the cam or intake now become the restriction. So like i said who knows

Thanks, guys! Yes...Radar and Jimmy R. both said the current heads are the choke point. Radar says the little .262/.272 roller will be just fine. With 1.6 rockers it is .650/.640 at .050 with a 108* lsa. He said it will be easy on parts. We will change the M-1 to a Super Victor MW intake with the 1150 Holley I have on it now. The engine is a 512 R/B with 13.4-1 compression and the car is 3400# with me in it.

Converter and gear may play into it, but our motors are very similar. Mine's only 505", cam is 264/268 duration and .700 net lift with the 1.7 rockers (but a mild profile planned originally for a street/strip motor), CR is 12.9:1, 1050 dominator, and race weight is 3,530 lbs.
Mine's gone 9.92 @ 135. I'd think you should be able to at least match that. Probably beat it.

I think 10.0 will be a given when you swap the heads. Your chassis is working well, you've also got good compression and a decent cam.
Looks like Kevin might have to watch out.

Thanks!! Radar did mention that we should change the 4.88s to maybe a 4.30. I had better get off my butt and sell some junk over the winter! We can't spend family money on the race car!

Ted I think you will need a CAGE= 9.99 or faster!
The 4.3 will be better also.
It's possible you could hit 9.75 ET
Gonna be a long winter waiting to go back out eh?

I agree w/ the 4.30's The '88's are wasting that engine's torque.

Re: Will I achieve my goal? - 11/04/12 06:42 AM

Ted, if your going to switch gears go to a set of 4.10 I have tried from 3:73 to 4:30 in my Duster and ended up putting 4:10 in the Dana 60 My 518 C.I.motor doesn't have as much compression or duration as yours does, my car is a little heavier also, 3450 lbs with me in it.I have tried different tire sizes in width and hieght and bias versus radials, my car ran the fastest ET and MPH with a set of 10.5x31x15W M/T drag slicks on it by a tiny bit. The 315x60x15 ET Street Radails ran 10.010 at 134.52 MPH and the car ran 9.993 at 134.62 MPH on the 10.5x31x15W, the playback tach showed 7000 RPM at the finish line with the radials and 6500 RPM with the 105.31x15W I'm thinking your car with the new heads will run mid 9.90 to mid 9.80s My SR heads with M.W. intake ports (no porting that I'm aware of, I bought them used several years back)flowed 340CFM @ .600 on a Super Flow 600 bench at 28 inch , my cam is smaller in duration also but I do have a little more net lift at the retainers, .710 net IHTHs, go get them

Re: Will I achieve my goal? - 11/04/12 01:06 PM

Thanks...Cab....Did you lose any 60' with the gear change? My tires are M/T 31x10.5w. I am thinking that 440Jim runs 4.10s in his Dart, too. Don...I think with some mods,Jimmy said my bars would certify to 8.50.

Re: Will I achieve my goal? - 11/04/12 06:40 PM

My car saw no measureable changes in the 60 ft ,330 or 1/8 mile times back then. I found out later I had a 10 micron fuel filter between the tank and the pump so the engine would go lean from the starting line all the way down the track until I let off. My car ran the same 60 ft, 330 , 1/8 mile as with the small element fuel filter as with the bigger 80 micron one But the last 1/8 was better Lots of dang gremlins out there you can tangle with
