Hood Scoop/ Carb Question

Hood Scoop/ Carb Question - 10/26/12 07:35 PM

I have just got started on the long process of putting my race car back together. It has been parked for 5 seasons. One of the things that I have planned is to install a pro stock style hood scoop that is mounted to an air pan that is attached to the Carb/Motor. I am wondering if you guys have any real world experience with doing this and what I will need to do to the carb to make this work. The previous set up was a stock height 6 Park scoop not sealed.

Any input would be appreciated.

I just finished mine last week. I have a dzus straight up off the carb stud and made a bracket that bolts to the motor plate and goes up and has 2 more dzus on the front base of the scoop and trim the hood around it all. If that makes any sense, sorry no pics right now. I can try to snap a few over the weekend.

if this is to go on your Demon, then it would appear your Demon is almost identicle in performance to my Dart. i was stuck on 9.57@139mph for a couple of seasons, the 140+mph was like a brick wall for us to break thru. i was having problems with my 6 pak scoop trying to rip itself off the hood so i went the cowl option, added to that i filled in the front grill to help aid the aerodynamics. with just those 2 changes & the motor untouched, i broke thru the 140 mph bracket to run 142mph & my et dropped almost a whole 10th to 9.48. with a bit of rear end tuning i managed to do a PB of 9.42. so with the engine untouched,i was pretty happy with them changes. how much of an improvement are you looking for?

Thanks for the reply! I think that I have got the mounting part worked out. I am more interested in how the carb/motor will be effected by the sealed scoop. Will I have to change the carb set up to accommodate the change.

Hey Rebel,

You are correct this is on the Demon. At this point I am not really attempting to lower the ET. I think that the new parts I have will hopefully lower the et. However if it doesn't I am not overly concerned. I am more interested in consistency and I race the car mainly in Super Street/ Hot Rod (10:90 index - 11:10 where I am) so I am already way faster than I am required to be. However the main reason for the change is I raised the engine 3/8 of an inch in the chassis and I am installing an under carb throttle stop. With theses changes I can no longer fit all of this under the six pack hood scoop and still run a decent air cleaner.
