SV1 carb?

SV1 carb? - 10/22/12 04:46 PM

I have been having problems with my old 90's barry grant carb. I've been thinking about getting a new one. Is anyone running the new SV1? My engine is a 499ci indy headed going low nines in 2900 Road runner. Pro Systmes testimonials claim going as much as 3 tenths faster. Any real experience or back to back testing anyone?

Some love them, some hate them. Personally, I'd buy one if I was starting from scratch.
I tried one from a similar combo to compare against my Pro Systems dominator that was spec'd for my combo and it ran basically the same. Admittedly my dominator is well tuned and I didn't spend much time on the SV-1.

There are a bunch of threads on yellow bullet about them. You'll see good and bad about them, but Like I said before...I'd own one if I was starting from scratch, but it isn't worth the change from what I already have.

had prosystems build my domy to my engine specs. worked perfectly. picked up a few tenths over a divinci. patrick told me i didn't have enough hp for a sv1. i have around 700.

Ditto on my build from Prosystems. I wanted an SV1 and requested a quote for an SV1, but was limited to a 4150 style intake, which an SV1 will fit, but I am also at only 700hp... He recommended their 1000cfm 4150 with dominator accel pumps and metering blocks. Its the one he won a carb challenge with and stated it will out flow a lot of 4150 carbs the way its setup.

The 4150 works really well in the few passes I got to make, but I would really like to try a SV1..We talked for a while and he did state, its more for +750hp, but above that hp is where they really shine. Unfortunetly we de-tuned my hemi for more reliability, and I don't think it will be making the 780hp it used to make...I would still bet on my little 484 hemi with the good flowing heads, and 4500 convertor, that a well tuned SV1 would still out run anything else.

Based on your weight and ET, your over 800hp, and you would benefit from an SV1..Average gain over a well tuned dominator is 20hp...

Just doing the air flow calc, 700hp at 7krpm is right on the bubble for an SV1 at 983cfm...Might have to think about getting one still, we will see.

I was using a pair of 750's and needed to step up to Dominators. After many discussions and alot of reading I purchased 2 SV1's.Patrick was great helping me tune them. When I get past my tranny issues, hope to get some good passes under my belt and fine tune them.

Send in the request for quote from his website for an SV1. You will hear from him in less than 24hrs. They price out around $1250 or so depending. I would bet your picks up the stated +20hp
