holley blue pump leak - 10/22/12 03:58 AM

just checking over car today and noticed a little drip of fuel on the ground underneath the trunk after i warmed up the car. checked all fitting ect... found out when pump runs (blue holley) there is fuel pouring out of the 2 little pressure relief holes. right where the 2 screws and two nuts are holding the motor in. any way i can fix this pump has been rebuilt 3 or 4 times.. took it all apart and cleaned it but still fuel pouring out of it

Look really close and make sure the body of the pump isnt cracked. Mine cracked where the fittings screw in. I lost 2 pumps that way after they had been working fine for a few years. They just started leaking outta the blue..

Herb McCandless once told me to rap a dollar around that thing, then throw it in a ditch and say "I lost a dollar in that ditch". And that concludes my thoughts on Holley blue pumps

SO TRUE.............Not holleys in general but the blues, reds etc. have no place on a fast car............shoot.......... Of course now we can determine what "fast" is to everyone.............

I bought a dragster from Rick Forish he had a holly blue on when I bought it so I asked what he did with the good pump and why is he trying to pown this junk on me.He replied his bg $hit on him at the indy race so he bought a holly blue at the track from someone used and bolted it on and went 6.90's @ 190 plus with it.I ran it with my 520 cid for two years running 7.90's @ 160 plus.

After I took it off and went to alky my basement fluded the only pump I had was that holly blue so I took it off the shelf riged some hoses hooked it to a battery hooked a charger to the battery and pumped two feet of water out of my basement.

A year later a friend was building a car on a buget so I gave it to him with a filter I had,He is still going 10.70's with it to this day in a 3300 lb car.

Sorry I forgot I ran a holly blue on a 2700 lb roadrunner I had for two years 200 laps no problems ,Muscle Motors told me the pump was junk and too small so they told me to buy a bg 280, the car went 9.70's with the holly and 9.70's twith the bg.

I have been racing for 20+ years never had a fuel pump fail me ever
I have owned bg's holly's,mallory's,Aeromotive's never a problem.

Herb told me the same thing about my Moroso deep oil pan about 20 years ago. He also told me that I needed a Milodon pan and swinging pick up or I would ruin my crank. I told him I had more cranks under the bench but no money for Milodon stuff. Funny now, hacked me off back then.

I have a 25 year old Holly blue pump in the trailer for a spare. I also had Blue pump that lasted 12 passes and just quit.

I called Herb when I was young and broke building an RB so he could yell at me... crap ended up going 9.9's and the crank, stock caps and LY rods are still alive and kicking in my old car. Think we pieced it together back in 92.

There's a good reason you see people at the track walking around asking if anyone has any Holley blue parts, or an extra pump.

I've had a blue pump yeas ago on my old setup,as a matter of fact,i had (2)of them that last for years with no problem until i went with the new bullet then one started to leak so i went to the a-1000 pump but i still run one of the blues on my nos side for fuel and i'v always thought that i should run a safety shutoff in case of pump failure U posted this thread have just confirm that.............

Yeah what he said Had 2 of them leak at the bolts years ago. Neither of those pumps flowed over 85 gph. I'd keep the dollar.
