You have to be kidding Jim. Car is living up to it's potential. Can't start over now. He should wear that vin as a badge of honor.

I think there are other SS/AH cars that are original Hurst cars, though?

Why retire it? It's a race car.

Michael, I'm pretty sure the Comella's is the only gennie that is racing now.

So it can become another boring show car, or worse yet a garage queen that no one ever get to look at? Was a race car from day one, and should be a race car until the Comellas decide different.

Ok. I was talking to Barton once and he did say that between all of his cars one of them was actually a genuine car. But I could be wrong and I can’t remember which.

Pancakes Cuda is an original, but his dart is the primary competitor now.

There are at least three more, two cuda's and a dart still racing. Belive the nose on Comella's car is a new carbon fiber one just installed last fall. Original fenders and hood tucked away in his shop.

Chuck had a Cuda he was building a couple of years ago when I stopped by and bought his old trans and some headers from him. I'd like to see him finish the Cuda and park the Dart. I'm more on preserving the original cars than a lot of guys on here. Why tear up an original car when a clone is just as fast?

Wayne Hutton's Cuda driven by Tony DePillo is an original car with a lot of history. The Jim Keyes car is also. BUT, the Comella car, no doubt has more runs on it than any original and is the only one raced on a regular basis.

Anyone can restore a car. Takes a man to cut one up and make a race car out of it. Go to any regular bracket race at any dragstrip. You will see many high dollar cars being raced. These cars were built to be raced from day one. Hats off to anyone who is still undercoating the rear wheel tubs on a regular basis!! The best form of rust control in the world!!!!

Sad to see this happen. However I am sure it be back out better than before. Must race cars get better attention then show queens.

Great Post! and yes the Comellas do have another car in the works. They were/ are going to keep racing the dart in the shootouts. I hate even looking at those pictures...
