Revisiting restricting oil to B-1s - 09/24/12 10:37 PM

I am running a .060 restriction now with full time oiling. I have lines front and back to the pan (3/8) and installed a 3/4 line in the bottom side of the valve cover on each side all going to the pan. By the end of my run I am flooding the breathers which I have moved to the top edge of the cover. Keep in mind I run WOT close to 17 seconds sometimes and this only happens on a full pull run. If I was a drag racer I would be dead by now. I am now thinking of reducer the restriction hole to .050 or possibly .040. My concern is on start up with the smaller hole reducing the flow will it cause increased wear before the shaft fills and starts lubricating the pushrods and rockers?

I started with .060 on the top. Was told that is the smallest hole they can drill in a hardend tip. We had the same issue all the oil on the top end. I talked with Manton they built the push rod he said that he can reduce the size on the lifter side of the push rod to .040 or .030 we went to the .030 and have not had any issues so far. When you pull the covers off after a run there is still a lot of oil on the top and my vac pump tank has oil also so there is plenty on top. We run a fairly big cam with 350# on seat springs.

I'm oiling through the shaft not through the pushrod. Thanks for responding though.

A buddy of mine switch the a all billet BAE motor this past two years, he ran a 12 AN from the rear of the heads as a drain, he runs a dry sump to boot. One of the guru at BAE told him that was uneccessary but he did it anyways Maybe it's time for a bigger rear drain

Ha... been there done that . The answer is a 40 thousands jet on each side that feeds the rocker shaft .

I pushrod oil with this motor. But my previous B1 in the Valiant I did not and we went with a .035 or #65 bit as a restrictor orfice. They will certainly hold some oil up top.
