Help, I have a Holley 1050 kicking my tail

Help, I have a Holley 1050 kicking my tail - 09/17/12 07:09 PM

Have run a 1050 Holley for years with good results, but let it sit for a year, and can't get it to idle clean. Floats are set right, and the needle and seats are holding, but idles rich, and seems to drip and flood the engine when I shut it down. Starts great when its cold, but hard starting after it has been run a while. Got the metering plates soaking now. Got any ideas? TIA

Check the floats. Brass float could have a pin hole, nitrophyl could be heavy from soaking up fuel.

Shoot some carb cleaner and air into the idle air bleeds sould be dirty. Do you run an air filter?

I just soaked the metering blocks, checked for warpage, put in new brass floats, cleaned the air bleeds, and set the fuel level. Started great cold, idled pretty nice, but still a little rich, but acts flooded when you go to start in five minutes, Lots of gas vapor coming out of the front two barrels, after you kill the engine. Bad needle and seat?????

Running 91 octane pump gas

so you say you are using pump gas.Which probably has ethinaul (sp) Which is hard on anything with some rubbers. If you have a power valve I would look there based on your symptoms.

Just put in new 35 power valves a couple days ago.

ccheck your set up...if it is dripping out the boosters you may have too much transition slot showing....take it off...turn it upside down...set the butterflies to show a small 'square' transition slot and put it back on...leave the idle speed screws alone from here and try to tune idle with the fuel screws...if you cant get it perfect try to adjust the rear idle srew just a little bit.....

You say the carb sat-up for awhile...check o-ring on the primary needle and seat. If it looks suspect, swap it to the secondary and if booster starts dripping in rear you have pinpointed your problem.

I think that was the problem. tried adjusting the rear enough to get it to idle clean, but then the rear drips. Biggest problem now is way too rich at idle.

Great!....if you have adjustable bleeds go up on orifice size on the outside bleeds
