Ok, I know this topic has been hashed out already, but now I know what I need to do to get better times off the line. My M/T's are set at 18 psi, I typically do a quick burn out (hit 3-4k for a second or two), rarely get the tires smoking, hear the squak and roll out to the line, yet am able to hit the 1.65 60' times. Is it REALLY necessary to do a "John Force" burn out with those tires? I did dyno my engine recently and at the crank I am at 582hp so maybe I do need to get them hotter/stickier than I thought. Those who use them, how long are you in box? Until they start to smoke? Longer? Could use some pointers here.... thanks.

My car is not even in the same ball park as yours but this is what I do. Second gear for about 3 to 4 seconds and let it roll out until it bites. I get a good amount of smoke but that's turning the tires at about 70 MPH. My 3800 LB 360 powered car will hit 1.80 to 1.85 60FT times with 25 to 27 PSI in the tires. Maybe putting low 300 HP to the ground and running 13.0s. Tire is a 275/60.

Mt tires sais to heat them up real good on your first run to bring the oils up, after that they only need a quick burnout. I bring it up to 5 grand in 2nd gear as quick as I can than roll out of the box, all this ofcourse after my first runs smokeshow

I just bought a set of the MT Radial Pros. I "heard" the same thing about the 1st few burn outs. (really torch them)
I usually swipe them and get out of the water, put it in 2nd and roll it to 4-5k then it 2nd up to about 5k and there's some smoke rolling then I roll out of it and up to the line. The sig pic is a tad "much" but it was a photo op.

Thanks for the replies... I appreciate it. I'll have to see what I can do and go from there. From what I was told, all I am doing is spinning them in 1st, then almost right away rolling out and into 2nd. Looks like I'll have to get a program down to make these tires good and sticky. Thanks!!

I assume you have low band apply on your valve body, just wondered, as you said you burn out in 1st gear.

Correct. In fact, I did some experimenting earlier tonight and think I have it figured out. I had a set of "used" slicks as trial runs and think I should be good to go. I also put on a proportioning valve to put more pressure on the front brakes which for some reason seemed to help out A LOT. I think that may have been part of the problem when hitting the line lock (perhaps?) I'm pleased with what I have now.... time to go to the track. More to come....

A little trick we are doing. Large first burnout as mentioned. Then just a quick burnout just to start to get smoke after the first break in burn out. Roll on out until it bites, but continue rolling up past the starting line (no longer spinning obviously) but picking up all of the fresh glue further out. My buddy is running consistant 7.60's in the quarter w/1.2 60's in his 68 Chevelle.

I just put MT ET Street radials on my truck for the first time last week, so I'm still learning myself. I ended up at 22psi, did a second gear burnout at 6000rpm for about 3 seconds and let it coast out and hook. It made all 8 passes between 1.552 and 1.560 sixty foot. On the 40 mile drive home I noticed some vibration...after checking the balance I found that the wheels had turned about 4 inches in the tires! I guess it's either time for rim screws, or maybe a little more air pressure.

Wheel screws are not recomended by M/T for the radials...try some glue

Beadlocks preferred (on high horse power applications). Even with glue one of my other buddies spins the tire on the rim about 1" to 1-1/2" almost every pass.

What the heck kind of glue sticks to aluminum and rubber? I love the idea of not having to drill holes in my Convopros though! Looks like I'm only turning the wheel about a half inch in the tire per pass.

With 582 hp you have more than enough power to start in high gear. I have ran drag radials since they came out and had great sucess with just simply rolling through the water then stabbing the throttle in high gear (if you have a manual valve body). It doesn't take time just wheel speed. I have had many 1.32 60fts @ 4000lbs with 295 65 15.
Your air pressure is in the ball park.
Oh ya glue with 3M weather adhesive. No screws in mine!

Was told by M/T that if they are new on the rims, they haven't had a chance to "seat" on the rim. Drive the car with them on for a couple weeks and after that, go have fun. Mine never moved, even now doing a "correct" burnout, set at 18psi.

never screwed, always run 15-18 lbs depending what the track will hold. my car went the fastest @ 18lbs. roll through water box and just whack the throttle to rotate the tires, stop and set line lock, place in second gear go to 5k, put in high gear and let off line lock, roll out about 4-5 ft and roll to the lights. been never any worse than 1.48 @ 4200lbs. no need for big burnout. tires will overheat as there soft to begin with
