Weight reduction showed up in new PB

Weight reduction showed up in new PB - 08/29/12 11:22 PM

I have been chasing a little more et recently,to put me closer to the pointy end in my racing class.
After farting around with induction and cam etc i finally got down to the nitty gritty - weight.
2 weeks ago i got some new hoosiers(275/60R15) and whilst i was at i weighed up some wheels/tyre combos

Weld 15x8 with Hoosier 9.0x30R15 (lite weight) 14.6kg
Torquethrust 2 15x10 MT 295/65R15 25.75kg
Centreline Qualifier 15x8 Hoosier 275/60R15 17.3kg (38.06 lbs)
Centreline Qualifier 15x8 R/stone 255/70R15 21.9kg
Centreline Qualifier 15x4 H/cook 185/80R15 14.2kg
In for a penny in for a pound i thought weigh the rear seat,my mates keep saying pull it out it's dead weight . 20.29kg (44.74 lbs)
Maybe i should race with less uel in the tank, stock with sump.OK instead of starting with about 60 litres (15Gal) lets try around 30 litres, there's around 21kg (46lbs)
Went to the street meet last night. These have not much prep and around 180 cars run mostly street tyres.
For the time of year it was quite mild, high 60's low 70's temp.Using my predicter weather station it sat between 1345 and 1500DA all night.
Predicter called 11.15-17 all night.
1st pass - 1.542 sixty for a 11.182@119.38 but good mph
2nd pass - 1.525 sixty for a 11.109@119.80 thought the bonnet lifted a little high
3rd pass 1.517 sixty for a 11.109@119.36
PB in sixty footer
Full track oil down 50 minute clean up .Darn thought the track may go too cold
4th pass - 1.511 sixty for a 11.084@119.69 PB in 60' and ET
The weight reduction was around 80 - 90 lbs to give an et reduction of 6 - 8 hundredths.
Well worth the effort.Unfortunately we are now moving out from the killer cold dry air into spring. Now to try the Hoosier lite weight 30x9 Weld wheel package at Judgement Day in 3 weeks
thanks for all the input here and at home

Nice piece and it deserves to be on the lightweight side.
Got to love those light weight B-bodies.

`You're very close to that 10 now, one right move on a good day and you might get it, or some small mods. Are you running the tunnel ram still ? if not try a 2" supersucker, that helped my car.
congrats on your pb, nice car.

Mick,
i am back to the M1 with 825 mighty demon,has a 1" open spacer.
After looking at a tunnel ram it seems a little too hard to get a M1 ram(shorter) plus the ability to get it under the scoop.Plus the cost of getting one down here to Aus . My engine shop /dyno have suggested going to a Victor 440 which has a longer runner.i have seen the comparison tests so there does seem to be something more there.
The indy modman is on the shelf till/if i build a bigger cube or higher revving motor.
Got to thank Mick Vescio Motor Body Works for the paint job

I run the supersucker on top of a victor int, it sits quite high.

Mick,
thanks.if i fit the victor i will run no spacer initially, iirc they are 1" taller tham a M1.
if i go ahead it has to be inside a week as i have a number of races coming up over the next 8 weeks
hey Shoebox - i have said before no one down here drinks Foster's,it's terrible

I have always been in favor of making the car LITE
any way you can.... its easier on parts and you dont
need big power
