Cool!

That's one of the benefits of building it yourself, progress pics.

Since someone else is building mine I won't have any pics till it comes back home.

Actually my engine builder is just up the road about 10 miles from me, and I am down there as much as possible.

Next step is cam and oiling. The cam quoted for this build is a really mild .589 lift with a 110CL and 260 duration at 50 or so....Still on a ledge about it, we will see.

Re: The Hemi........Progress - 07/27/12 12:39 PM

you better check the lifter bores i used that block and solid flat tappet 904 lifter would not go in the hole past half way good thing i was using a solid roller that fit just right "factory fu in my favor" but i did not relize the problem until i had the short block assembled!

Very nice

Cubic inch/bore and stroke?

484 cubes 4.310 bore (+.060) x 4.15 stroke
11.6:1 compression
Eagle crank
Manley rods
JE Pistons
Indy 426-1 heads

The block has tons of meat everywhere. The data sheet states it can bored to 4.600 safely, so room to grow for sure. I bought this for the rotating assembly I already had from my previous hemi.

I promise, the next one will be bigger....

Just not sure about the cam. Going from a .738" to .589 seems a little too big of a change.

Since you are near your engine builder, don't forget to share the dyno video!

Re: The Hemi........Progress - 07/28/12 09:39 PM

Have a choice of timing covers...I have a Milidon gear drive or a Cloyes billet roller timing chain, and a new cover I just received from a member on here...For now, I think I am going with the chain and new cover...Oil pump and cover should be here next week. And he already ordered the cam. I think its mild, but we will see. Seems my crappy 4.10 gears are a bit mild so they wanted the power band down lower.

For intake and carb, choices get a lot more interesting and pricey. Since I can't run my injection, I have a couple of choices:

1-Purchase an Indy 426-2 single plane for a 4150. The catch is, it will need to be gasket matched to match up with the heads.
2-Call BGR and have him make a tented top plate for my tunnel ram for a 4150 carb
3-dunno, find a used one for a good price.

Why can't you use the injection setup again?

Re: The Hemi........Progress - 07/29/12 11:15 AM

I've got one of those manifolds on the shelf. I tryed it with a 4500 adapter and a 1140cfm BG on the dyno. The tunnel ram and 2 thermoquads were 30hp better on the first pull with no tuning on my junk. If you'd like to try it I'll lend it to you. (You may have to mill it to fit your application but that's fine with me)Dave

You have a PM on the single 4bbl intake...I should try your Thermo quads on my tunnel ram with a 2x4 top plate...Just not a fan of tuning duals for racing anymore.
