Some Times I Piss Myself Off - 07/12/12 04:18 PM

Some times I piss myself off so bad.... I'm ready to
pull my engine out and I cant find my tailshaft plug...
I dont want trans oil all over the floor..... DAMN
being held up for something so STUPID

Well I just washed my brand new Ram pick up then proceeded to back it into the side spray bar on the company water truck. Scratch and light dent about 8" long just in front of the bumper behind the D/S rear tire. DAMN. One second of not thinking and forever a reminder.

Well there's always trash bags and duct tape- always there when you need 'em like a trusty friend.

...but yeah the plug works better.

P, you're only ahead of me because of the time difference!

I've used a paper coffee cup in a pinch, or a baggie taped to the tailshaft in the past, before I bought 2 plugs just to be sure I could find 1 when I needed it.

Well I found it.... of all places... it was in my
other tool box... but this damn thing is FIGHTING me
even inch of the way... I'm having a hard time getting
the mid plate off the studs... once I get it off and
on the ground those holes are getting drilled BIGGER

i have followed your struggle with this and all i can say is,it could have been worse,if it had been me that oilleak would have caught fire and then i would have forgot about covering up the trans or emptying it before pulling it and there would have been a big puddle of transfluid on the floor

look at it from the bright side your in your homeshop atleast

and it will turn around just give it some time

its a real cool car!

LOL... the other day when I had the pan off I slipped
and fell on the oil on the floor... got a good lump
on the back of my head(stupid stuff) plus I did the
splits.... that wasnt good(I'm too old for that stuff)
but I feel fine now.... other than all the BS with
this engine

They're useless anyway. I snagged mine on the firewall and pulled it out. 4 Rolls of paper towels to clean that mess up.

upside down... the ONLY fluid that didnt come out was
diff fluid... trans fluid came out the speedo hole
even with the gear in it... oil came out where I have
the fittings on the block for the remote filter and
of course water came out the lower hose... yeah it
took 2 full rolls of towels and oil dry.... but the
DAMN THING is on the ground.... I was ready to throw
a match on it and be DONE with it

I remember pulling the B1Ba heads off the 408 when I put my Indybrocks on it. I litteraly sucked the coolant out with my han helb mityvac, and also took the same mityvac to the heads to suck oil out of the valleys. I was so paranoid of dumping oil/coolant on my freshly painted hot rod that it took me about 6hr longer than it should have, but I didnt scratch the car, or spill a drop.

I even have those handy petcocks in the water plugs and I stil had coolant to suck out when I drained the block.

With head studs it was easy to RR the heads. I left 2 short studs in the block to center the heads as I took them off and installed the new ones.

Im like you Mike, I hate a mess to tromp through whan playing cars in the garage.

I feel your pain.....lately I find myself stepping off my step ladder a few steps too early and it really makes for some funky recoveries.....so far nothing broken

Race tech???? more facebook. OH I got a hang nail this morning and can't go to work. You spend more time whining about not find the plug than it would take to duct tape the thing shut.

I use a old tailshaft yoke. First I put a zip tie around the tail shaft housing loosely then loop a zip tie thru each u joint hole and thru the zip tie on the housing. Tighten everything up and it's not going anywhere.

I also deleted my speedo hole with a frost plug. No leaks for me

Mr P things could be a lot worse. When I first read the title I thought it said "Sometimes I piss myself"

I usually spend more time looking for an odd size bolt than it would take to go to a hardware store and buy a new one. It never fails,if I can't find a tool I want and look for hours on end for it,I will trip over it when I give up looking.

Put a full drain pan of oil under whatever you are working on,and you know where your tools will end up.

Mike...We was working on the 64 tonight and my buddy who was a Nam Vet in 70-71 tripped over the floor jack..He hit the floor pretty hard,got up and says...What bolt ya need now?

I hate it when I misplace parts and tools. When I went to install the 505" stroker it took me almost a week to find my oil pump priming rod, and I know I have 2 others still MIA? The one I found was in my "tune-up" tool box that I take to the track and left in the car trailer.

Bifocals?? yea I know the feeling, step off the ladder early,trip over somthing, run into a door jamb,,,done it all, and still alive to tell/laugh about it so I guess it's all good.

I think its a heat related thing.... The hotter it gets the worse it is.... Its even worse if your from the north & move south.... there is like a trillion year adjustment period to smarten back up....
