Dodge Stratus...1 step closer carbon wheel tubs done - 06/24/12 02:47 AM

Rolled the car out side for the first time with the front clip on.

All steel minus hood rolled off the scales just like this at 2,214 with me in it! Obvioulsy missing doors, wheel tubs, and rear half tin...Think I'll meet my goal of 2,400 lbs at the starting line.

Will be running my stroker small block for the time being, until I get to build a real motor

Big block will be easy swap and then minimal work to mount a powerglide behind it...

The motor is 408 in a R3 block and Indy 360-1 heads. Pretty mild combo that I used in my Dart.

Went 10.62 at 3,418 lbs, so Im hoping with some up-grades and a more areo 1,000lb ligter car it'll run ok for now...

For now its is my 408 that I used to bracket race in my Dart.

Its a R3 block, 408, 13 to 1, .630" solid with Schebuck lifters, Indy 360-1's slightly touched up by Dwayne Porter, 950 HP. 727 w/ griner brake and a 8" PTC converter.

This motor ran 10.62 iun my 3,420 lb Dart with smaller TTI headers, and exhaust system, and no vacuum pump.

Im hoping in a more areo 1,000lb lighter car it will run ok untill I can do something like 540-572. When I do a real motor some day I will also put a powerglide behind it. The chassis is set up for the big block and will only need a slight re-work to the trans crossmeber for a powerglide.

Here is a few more shots of the car. The chassis is all 4130 chromoly and certified to 6.0 in the 1/4.

Nobody makes parts for these cars...I guess because they make carbon/fiberglass bodies for Pro Stock?

Unless someone knows of a company that does I am unaware of anyone that makes parts for them.

Doors would be my best investment right now, they are about 40lb each after ALOT of work...

It may be hard to see but I bent hoops out of 3/8" & 1/2" chromoly tubing that rest in pinch welds etc. Then I welded them to the car body after it was mounted. I mounted the rocker panel to the rocker bar of the chassis in the same way...

Re: Dodge Stratus...so close but so far away - 07/08/12 02:50 AM

96 Degrees? I can't wait till it gets that cool in the daytime here. It was 95 in my garage w/ my(undersized) A/C hammering away. 104 outside.

That is one fantastic looking car. It seems you settle for nothing less than perfection.

Re: Dodge Stratus...so close but so far away - 09/02/12 04:39 AM

Finished the doors today. All the tin from the wheel tubs forward is done. Just gotta build a rear firewall and trunk tin. Then I can start on wiring and fire it up.

Gutted factory doors, driverside is on pins for easy removal.

You mentioned awhile back body mounting hoops are mounted in "pinch welds"? Care to explain that term?

Wow talk about thread brought back from the dead!

Lets just say I have been trying real hard and having fun... ...I have been to 2 NHRA divisionals went 3 rounds in Spokane. I have been to 5 of the 7 NHRA open's so far and I am sitting 3rd in points mostly because of participation rather than stellar performances. I am actually getting ready to leave Thursday morning for the division 6 ET Finals...looking forward to that. The closest I have came to a win was a runner up at the Woodburn Mopar Nationals.

I have vastly improved in a years time as a driver in Super Pro. As well as slowly tweaking the car into shape. Just got the converter back today from PTC, hoping that loosening it up will help with 60' consistency and maybe pick up some ET.

Looking forward to some good fall weather for some new bests...

Well since its a factory body, at the A-pillar where the windshield lays there are 2-3 layers of steel I was referring to that area as pinched-welded. Off my cage A-pillar tube I bent 3/8" chromoly tubing that lays against the "pinch-weld" and is welded to it. Make any sense?

Not sure if you've seen my build video? Its kinda dated now since I've done so much to the car since the video, but it'd kinda show you how I put the car together...
