turning a 4 door into a 2 door. - 06/13/12 03:31 AM

my uncle wants to take a clean 65 plymouth belvedere 4 door and turn it into a 2 door post with a doner car to run in nostalgia super stock we have heard it can be done fairly easily. What I was needing was an article on how to do this or some good step by step pictures if any of you have done this before.

Thanks guys!

I have seen pictures of it being done. Do not remember where now. On Bigblock Dart there was a guy who did that with a Dart. If I remember the article on the B body the spots to mount the post to make it a 2 door car were on the structure of the 4 door car.

The doors are kinda hard to come by, plus the brain damage. Just buy the post car and be done with it.

Thaank you very much that was exactly what I was looking for! I like the way the forbbodies only one used the skin off the old door for the patch piece! Thanks again

Yes, that's relatively easy, just keep in mind that the profile of the b-post in a 2 door is different than in a 4 door, so you still can't do it using 2 D doors and just moving the 4 D post rearwards and covering the hole with the partial skin of the 4D. The B-post needs modifications to make it work. Same is true with A-bodies, and on top of that the B-post of the 4 d is way thicker, so that the 2 D sedan rear side glasses won't fit.

Here is some pics of a bit more radical conversion http://www.moparmaniacs.net/belveframe.html

And here is a pic of a converted A-body with the thick B-post: http://kuvia.1g.fi/kuvat/Tapahtumat+2011/FHRA/SonaxSpringNats2011/Camera2/MOP_7902.jpg

A few years ago I saw an article on a dark blue 62 Belv/Fury that had been converted, you might be able to find that article somehow.

It was on the cover, on a low-angle shot that let you see the turned-inside whitewalls (why didn't they photoshop that?).

I'm sure it can be done, but not easily.

A different question: what do you say when the tech guy says "it's not legal"?
How do you prove it's an exact match for a 2-door, with no weight distribution, engine location, axle position etc. changes?

I think he'd be better off and he'd save some money by just selling the 4 door and buying a 2 door. That or just race the 4 door in NSS.

A 4 door and post car use the same chassis/roof. When the car is built as a post an interior 'plug' is used where the back window is. To do the job correctly, a post car donor needs to be used for the plug/jamb, post/glass and doors.

It doesn't make sense to me to do all that work since a donor post car needs to be located anyway.

Then there's the issue of getting someone to sell you a car knowing you're going to cut up a post car to build a post car...
