67 Barracuda with 33" tall slicks: which height fronts? - 05/28/12 03:33 PM

Hi!I have a 67 barracuda which Im building into a race car.

I have 33" tall slicks out back with Cal Tracks suspension with stock height monoleafs.

I have to buy front drag skinnies and I was wondering which height should I get.

27"

28"

or

29"????

What class or classes will the car run? If it is going to be a ten second car or faster, then a tall tire for foot brake to keep the car reaction slow enough. For super classes, very short. Bracket racing with a box, no difference.

Depends on your headers. If they're fenderwells, 25 26 max. I have 25" 165r on my 68 cuda. 26" might fit. 28" won't fit, tried them.

Car has HEMI in it, no fenderwells, I still have the stock inner fenders, so it has to clear the stock inner fenders.

What class....we just do heads up racing down here in Peru. I would like to run in the 9s...maybe low 9s after some engine upgrades in the future...

So, by heads up do you mean pro tree? or full tree? Full tree = what ever you like, pro tree = shortest possible (on most full body cars).

Without altering (cutting it off) the front of the opening lip the most you'll fit and be able to turn properly will be a 26 inch tire.
Moroso 7.10 tires will fit but don't try to turn.

Still, we get lights flashing between the stage and launch light.

Isnt pro tree supposed to be only the launch light right after the stage light?

why shortest possible if its a pro tree??? You get better vehicle reaction times with a shorter tire?

Full tree (Sportsman tree) you get the lights coming down...
pro tree is the pre stage, stage then the green...
either a .400 or .500 pro tree

We dont get the lights coming down in .5 intervals....

but after the stage light we do get the amber lights flashing real fast before the green light. I guess its a pro tree then?

I tought a pro tree was then the green light went on after the stage light with no amber lights in between.

On a .500 pro tree you should still be good with a 26" tire. If it were .400 pro tree then you would want as small as practical.

why does everybody say that its ok 26" or smaller with a pro tree???

Why a bigger tire would not be adviseable?

Reaction times. The smaller the front tire the quicker your reaction times will be. If you are racing on a .400 Pro Tree you generally need all you can get.

FWIW my big tire car has a 33" rear tire and I run a 26" tire on a pro tree. But it is a tube chassis car, which is a different animal than what you are building.
