head gasket thickness - 05/22/12 11:51 PM

Has anyone here used .100"+ thick head gasket on a aluminum BB and if so any problems?

I'm guessing to solve a clearance issue..

I have SCE .096 copper head gaskets on a magnum engine with 5 years of racing on them. I have had the heads off once to rework for larger lift and springs. has never leaked in any way. Iron heads tho.... Iron Ram heads.
Reason: machine shop ordered LA pistons for my magnum block. Pistons stuck way out the top of deck and magnum heads are closed chambers.

that's what i was figuring but depending on exactly what you're doing it's a good idea to keep the quench distance as tight as reasonably possible

I was also looking at maybe someday switching to a really thick head gasket to get the compression down for pump gas. The cometics come up to like .120
