Who's running Dominators on the street?

Who's running Dominators on the street? - 05/21/12 01:06 AM

I've been running my 505" with a Dominator on the street.
It's always been a little rich (after putting in aftermarket metering blocks, before that it was WAY rich).
I've been playing with it a bit lately and I seem to be making large changes in jet sizes for little change in A/F.
The tuning forums suggested to start with a 85/95 jetting (with PV in front) as a baseline. I'm now at 78/88, and my A/F suggests I should still jet down further.
Other specs are:
Transfer slot restrictor: 0.055"
PV channel restrictor: 0.089"
Idle feed restrictor: 0.040"
Idle air bleed: 0.082"
Main air bleed: 0.026"

Also has a high flow 6.5 PV in the primary side.

Anyway, I thought I'd ask to see how people have their Doms jetted?

it's easier to find the proper changes by logging some ifo and posting it.
idle rpm and a/f #
off idle and a/f #
no load 1500 rpm a/f
loaded 1500 (cruise) rpm a/f
etc. etc.
i doubt you actually need a hi-flow power valve. i've never found it necessary on an 8896 dominator for street use.

8082-3 1050
86 ft. 96 r.
71 idle bleeds
28 hi speed bleeds
2.5 pv ft. only.............

Here is what happen to me. The front squirter started leaking at around 2k RPM. It showed up on the front spark plugs 1,2,3,4. The carb builder advised to put in a P/V.
I got advice in here about taking a draft hammer an very lightly tap the pin to reset the seat. I have not done that yet.
I noticed the leakage got worse when i ran ethonal.
Hope this helps..

Where are you rich at? WOT? Idle, part throttle? Could be a number of things? Do the boosters have skirts?

It's OK at idle.
Goes rich off idle (on tip in?) before coming back to ~13.5, then can go pig rich on the later end of a good stomp. Even dipping down to low 11s.

I've got a recent log, but the RPM didn't log properly so it's difficult to interpret.

Maybe it's time for a strip and rebuild? It's really like there's extra fuel coming from somewhere it's not supposed to...

And if my memory serves me (and I'm not convinced it does), I swear my A/Fs were to perfect when I first installed the quickfuel metering blocks. The car then sat for 6 months or so, then I've been chasing this annoying rich condition ever since.

Cheers!

Give the rebuild a try. If it was good before should be good after a rebuild. Your setup seems good. This is a two circuit carb correct?

Three circuit converted to two circuit.

I'm running a 9377 with no PV, jetted at 98 square. Chassis dyno said I could go to 99's. Plugs are clean, don't smell gas at idle, etc... The furthest that I drive it on the street is about 50 miles round trip.

Here's what I would consider a stupid question:
I've recently replaced the power valve and the needle-seat assemblies.
Can I just get by with what is essentially the gasket kit, or should I go and buy the whole hog rebuild kit?

(it's a stupid question, because I know I really should pony up the extra to get the complete kit... but I'm happy to save a few bucks if all I'm likely to need is gaskets).

Try to get the motor to idle very lean. The idle circuit adds fuel from idle through cruise. Even at WOT it still adds fuel. I would say forget about WOT and tune idle and cruise first. Keep jetting down the primaries until it stumbles at cruise then jet up one size. Then adjust your PVCR's for WOT.
My engine will cruise below 2000 at 15.2, and cruise at 14.7. You should be able to lean your out more. Maybe even try a 32 on the HSAB. The smaller the hole the earlier the main jets come in.
My specs are with a 3 circuit:
76 IAB| 32 HSAB| 35 IFR| .065 TSR| .0935 PVCR| 76/92 jets.

I've installed .035 restrictors in the idle fuel and transfer fuel slots, it is way to lean now when cold, 15.9 to 20.+ depending on throttle position. this is a 9375 non HP two circuit that has been modified a bunch before I bought it, no power valves. I do have two other 9375-2 HP 3 circuits 1050 Dominator carbs., trying similar idle fuel and transfer fuel restrictor sizes to get a good part throttle cruise AFR, 14.2 or leaner

Thanks All,
As an update on progress, I dropped and emptied the tank to make sure there's nothing but fresh gas in there.
I put a new kit through the carb, but in doing so became dubious of one of my floats. Parts store is out of stock. So, it'll wait until the new float before I fire it off again.
