Thanks for the GREAT news,Cab! I've got one on the way!

They leak because they are thin and vibrate breaking the silicone seal. If your ported RPM heads are still stock intake port size just use the stock tin valley pan. I've even ported the valley pans a little with a die grinder and sanding rolls. When I went to a raised port window on the RPM heads I had to fabricate my own valley pan.

Use a stock one, that's what Dwayne used on mine, cheap, and effective,,,,,no leak,,,,,

Randy... where is the leak at now with your currant
plate... isnt that a Indy plate and isnt it about a
1/4" thick... if I recall the heads hang over the
plate so you have to put the plate on first then the
heads or maybe slide it in from the front(but that may
not allow for a good bead of sealer)... back in the
day when I ran BB I hated those tin valley pans

I have one on my 440 w/ stage VI heads. The indy plate wouldn't work w/ the factory 6 pack. all good...

Thanks everyone! Last season I used an Indy plate..which is not ideal for Edelbrock heads....more gap between the plate and head than I would have preferred! I used the black Chrysler Corp. silicone sealer, and it worked, but still seeped oil! As far as using the tin factory pan...I've ALWAYS had bad luck with those! Maybe I should try again...but,the port openings would have to be opened up slightly,to match my heads slightly larger intake windows. I have some decisions to make! I HATE ANY OIL LEAK!...especially into the combustion chambers...which was my problem using the tin valley cover in the past!

On my low deck 518 with CNC ported RPM heads and six pak inatke and carbs I had to trim the stock sheet metal valley pan, I do use both thin intake gaskets that come with the Hi Po Fel Pro valley pan(the one with no heat riser hole in it),one on each side of the tin cover and Hylomar on both sides of the gaskets I hate vacume and oil leaks I switch heads to a set of Indy SR and used there valley thick plate, I have a small leak now from it between it and the right side head at the rear

Thanks for the info,Cab! I've NEVER used Hylomar...or "Right Stuff"...which,according to Raff,is a REAL PITA to deal with....if/when you have to disassemble anything sealed with it! My engine builder SWEARS by it,for sealing off leaks! I trust the knowledge of BOTH of them! BIG DECISION!

it's worth the try it's what $40?? I used the mopar grey sealer along each side and have zippy issues. I have also used pans plenty of times w/o a problem.

Jeff..what's a ZIPPY issue? I'll most likely try the Source pan out,and use my Hughes composite intake gaskets, that were designed for ported heads, with larger intake windows. They're a PERFECT match to the enlarged openings!

Re: 440 SOURCE VALLEY PAN??? - 05/05/12 08:51 PM

I have the one with the little pan made into it to clear the heat crossover. Used it for around 100 dyno pulls with Edelbrock heads and a CH-28 intake.
The only problem I had was after about 10 pulls it developed a leak where they welded in the little clearence pan. They ground down the welds a little too far before anodizing it. It cracked at one of the ground down welds.
I Migged it and painted it and have had no more problems. I use Ultra Black silicone, sticks well and cleans up easier than Right Stuff in my opinion.
I would think the solid tray would be fine if it will fit.

Thanks for that heads-up,Keith! I will inspect the welds on that!...I have the same one coming. I ordered that one since I want to compare my old Performer RPM dual plane...with my current Mopar M-1 single plane. Thanks again! Randy

zippy = zero. I like those gaskets

Re: 440 SOURCE VALLEY PAN??? - 05/06/12 06:08 PM

Randy I only have one regret about building my current engine, and that was going with a solid valley pan
I was told by more than one builder not to do it,but did I listen? NOOOOO I thought "why do I need a removable center" well once the sealer was set and both heads were on I quickly realized the finality of the assembly and having ANY access to the lifter valley or easy access to the oil pump drive
Send me a PM with your address and I will send you the best sealer for the valley pan to head

This is what I did also. I slightly opened up the intake ports and just ground the valley tray to fit during mock up and there are no leaks ANYWHERE on my motor for that matter.......
