New Best with Barton LD stroker

New Best with Barton LD stroker - 04/23/12 01:28 AM

First time out with my new 493 ci RBRE stroker.
1st run was an eye opener for me.

After crew chief Dave and I did a little chassis tuning, the pucker factor calmed down.

9.18 @ 145.4 with a 1.242 60' time!!
Not to mention 117 mph in the 1/8

Thanks to Ray Barton and his crew, Rob @ LRT chassis, starting line crew @ the house of hook = Byron Dragway.

Graet pic! I'm about ready to FINALLY fire-up my RBRE 528 Hemi (NOT a crate motor!) so I'd be happy if my car puts on half the show yours did!

Nothing fancy 13:1 flat tappet cam, SR max openings, ported, 400-3 manifold, MP 4.15 crank Barton/Manley 4340 rods.

745 HP 662 lb/ft. 2.5 tenths quicker than my 451, 5 mph faster.... so far..

1.242 60'
3.695 330'
5.816 660'
117.6 660' mph
7.642 1000'
9.185 1320'
145.4 1320' mph

I think there's more in it, that's out of the box and some chassis tuning to calm it down.
I can feel the difference in power for sure!

Thanks to all for your compliments

Don

Re: New Best with Barton LD stroker - 04/24/12 02:37 AM

Bob it put a little flat spot on 1 tube. That side is lower than the other.
Glad I got that fueler pan from you. If I had the Milodon like on my 451, I think Jerry and I would BOTH be pulling them off

I was a little late on the 1-2 shift (man it revs quick!) and I felt it spinning a little on the top.
The 6600 rpm shift light came on before 1000'. crossed the line @7050 rpm.

Yes Jerry it was cool people coming up to the trailer, it reminds me of driving my Super Bee and all the thumbs up and smiles you get

But it sucks not being able to see where you are going!
Can't wait til Sat & Sun for some competion.

JD to be honest with you, once is enough for me.
I'm so glad it didn't break anything, I have seen several friends have problems with big wheel stands.
Thanks, Don

Glad you started chasing chassis set up. Looks like it's making some steam, the sixty is killer, I'll bet that felt real good

DELAY BOX????

Ray specced the cam, 630 lift.

I guess the added power/torque was wheel standing more than expected at first! Nice time slip.

Re: New Best with Barton LD stroker - 04/26/12 02:27 AM

Jim I knew it could happen. Thats probably why I was able to pull second so quickly. I think this saved some $$/damage.
It felt like it was going to do a blow over.
I should try a foot brake launch one of these times.
Anyway it's calmed down, with the emphasis on DOWN!
I'll see what it does @ my home track (Rt. 66) this weekend.
It is different than the 451. This engine doesn't jerk the wheels on the launch, it drives into the wheel stand if that makes sense?
I expected better 60' times, but the 1.24impressed me.
Thanks for the compliments Jim!

Jim it did feel great! Not as much steam as yours.
Mine seems to do better in the first half than the back half of the 1/4 mile.
If it don't rain Sat. we can tune some more. Get some more seat time, although I felt at home on the last 2 runs.
