Front end alignment...

Hey guys,

Just finushed putting all new front end parts in the race car and its time to take it to the front end shop..

I know that there must be some differances in setting up a race car over a street car....what are they?

Its a 65 B body...NSS Car...3200lbs...

Anybody got any hints that I can pass on to my front end guy?

With the front (body) up 1" set the camber to 0
set the caster to as much as you can with toe at 0
to a 1/16 toe in

So with the desired ride hieght set...lift the front end up an inch? Like maybe front the K-frame?

It is good to check toe in/out all the way to the stops after alignment. Your car may ride much higher than one inch under power. It depends on spring rate, and how much air gets under the front.
When ever caster is adjusted, it will affect the toe pattern throughout travel. Adding two degrees caster will lower the outer tie rod about 3/16 inch on a stock front. That is enough to throw the bumpsteer out of whack. The Mopar Chassis manual has an excellent chapter on this, making it easy to understand.

good luck with the front end guy most do not have a clue, or do not want to take the time. It's nice to have the tools and just do it yourself.

Just trying to clarify the above 1".
Is this 1" of body lift or 1" of tires off the ground lift? If it is body lift, where/at what point do you usually measure the body lift? Lift at the rocker panel and lift at the K frame are different amounts. Thanks for clearing this up.

I use the K-member for that.... I use a bottle jack
on the K and lift it 1"(measured at the K)... that
gives the body 1" of lift in the front to simulate a
down track condition... as Greg said also you SHOULD
do a toe curve to see how bad it is

Gary has done my car a few times in the past... plus
when I get the Rampage done I'll take it to him to
check the front end.... I can get it real close at
home but I still take it to him to check it out
