I smell a cheater

I smell a cheater - 02/20/12 06:28 PM

I have noticed on several occasions the SUMMIT pro stock team has had a exaust fire that will not go out quickly. I am forced to believe they are cheating. Its not cheating until you are caught. no way the other GM cars can not compete with them. they always qualify just OK then all of a sudden they find the tune. Bob glidden wrecked at 170+ jumps out and covers his intake.

Once the PS guys started using fabricated intakes instead of over-the-counter cast intakes, covering the intake was pretty much the norm. And think about it ... he could never have gone through tech without them looking at the intake !!

That's because there are no rules against "tuneups".....only against illegal parts and fuel.....btw, a lot of cars have header fires on shutdown. I seriously doubt Anderson and Line are going to risk losing a long-term multi-million dollar sponsorship by cheating. All the drivers and teams have seen what NH did to Eckman when he blew off his oil pan with a blue bottle....

the point I was making they would not be caught cheating in the tach check in. And maby they are not. and for their sponsor. Anderson was caught shaving the front tires below tred tolerance 2 years ago. They are doing something. I think, maby not. Its difficult for me to think these other GM teams can out qualify the Summit team and then whammy Anderson/Line find the answer

If NHRA used a fuel carbon sampler that would tell. A simple chemical test would identify carbon from gasses like nitros , alky etc.

Re: I smell a cheater - 02/20/12 09:41 PM

I’ve heard a few years ago a certain dodge team used to fill an empty battery and run the NO2 line up and through the starter.

I’ve also been hearing a couple of interesting things on Jegs winning a championship, and then all of a sudden just didn’t want to run last year.

Isn’t gossip fun!

it's funny that no matter if someone get's a holeshot on them and is in front. the summit cars always seem to power by at the end

the summit team does seem to have the most and biggest header fires. how a bout that trailer fire a couple years ago?

Re: I smell a cheater - 02/21/12 12:09 AM

Makes me wonder as I just said to my buddy yesterday..........how come the Summit cars always seem to pick up lately in eliminations and most others slow down a tad ? And they are the only two cars I have noticed header fires on. Ron

Do you guyd really think Allen Johnson and the rest of the gang would sit idly by and LET the Summit teams cheat?

The Summit team has some incredible people on the crew, and besides Summit's dollars, Ken Black has some pretty deep pockets his own self.

Throw in the fact that Anderson's father-in-law owns a race track not too far from the shop that they can test at whenever they want.

Don't know about the cheating part but i can tell you this.Greg was not happy with the tune up Jason gave him in the semis 6.59et won't win lane choice.Greg can tune Jason's car to run 6.55 et and Jason can do the same but won't.To me thats cheating. If it won't for Greg. Jason wouldn't be there.

yes I do think they would set by and let NHRA do their own police work. None of the Pro racer will accuse anyone of cheating unless they are 100% sure. You don't run around NHRA and whine cheater without evidence. I think they are cheating somehow. If it were just the FORD and Mopar teams that could not compete I would not be as skeptical but when all of the GM cars are not even in the chase, bull. there cheating.

well, I know they were running 6.30s & 40 at the end of last year. After they had the championship sown up they slowed down. none of the other cars can get within 2 hundredths. there cheating.

Doooooood, put down the bowl. AJ went .46 for the fastest pass ever this winter in testing. Line holds the record at .47.

Lots of teams are right there with the Summit team. Their big advantage is they hold it together on race day when everyone else is stepping on their dinks.

I'm sure AJ intentionally puts the car into shake just so Anderson and Line can win. If you really look at the stats there are lots of passes where Team Summit are vulnerable and whoever is in the other lane just can't seal the deal.

Remember Eckmam and Ornsdorff when they were hiding nitrous in the oil accumulator an it blew up in the pits in Columbus? Alderman was running nitrous when he was on top and then had the mysterious break in at the shop. Been going on a long time and the NHRA doesn't tech near hard enough to find it.

Last year for the Pontiacs, they will be switching to Camaros next.
I don't know about the rest of you guys but it's no fun watching "Teams" in all classes. When you have 3 or 4 cars out of 16 where is the competition?Funny how Neff layed down for his boss in Pamona. But it's a rich mans sport.

There are others out there that run the numbers. Look at Mike Edwards for example. He is almost always right there as far as MPH goes and very often with ET. The Summit team is just really good. The encounter issues much less than almost everyone.

with both. I think when Jeggie gets everything sorted out he will have the fastest, most consistent Mopar team and will be in the top three or four in the class .

I've been told by many NHRA class racers that it ain't cheating until you get caught How did Gregg get so fast back when he had no sponsors I remember when a certain Mopar driver with the initials of D.A. started driving a car that wouldn't fall out of a tree for several years before he came to the team from IHRA no rule racing He ended up winning several NHRA world championships before being suspend for recreational drug use and the team shop being broken into causing unknown problems

Re: I smell a cheater - 02/21/12 08:22 PM

The clutch!!! I know it's a big secret still, but
the 5 or 6 disc small diameter 6 inch clutch is
still where the tune is at. KB racing were the
first ones to have it, not so much a secret any
more, but a tuning nightmare. They don't have to
cheat, they just have to out spend. A $50,000
clutch combo is nothing for KB racing. But this
is old info anyways, right??? !!!

Re: I smell a cheater - 02/21/12 08:55 PM

It's also about the will to keep working when others have stopped. They have been scrutenised more than any other team out there. They just have the money, drive, knowledge, set up, and hot hand right now.

Re: I smell a cheater - 02/21/12 09:34 PM

Qualify near the top to get lane choice in the first round and race fast to keep it. A lot of these tracks are a couple of hundreds quicker from lane to lane. Line and Anderson rarely get wheel hop like the other teams do so either look at the clutch set-up or some type of traction control. They have several Nascar guys on their team and if anyone knows there way around the rules or how to push the rules its Nascar guys.

Re: I smell a cheater - 02/21/12 10:14 PM

I agree with most, that the multi car teams arent always good for the sport, BUT, without them, there may not be enough cars to make a series succesful. Just part of the deal.

As far as Line and Anderson, they are well funded, and extremely sharp individuals who are not afraid to outwork the competition. It isnt by chance, luck or cheating that they are one top. They are the best tuners out there. If you really want to see where they win, look at their incvrementals, and analyze it a little closer. You'll see where they do their damage, and exactly what they have a handle on.

I also agree, they are there for the beating, but you CANNOT be off YOUR game when they stumble, and thats what usually happens. They arent going to give you much, and when they DO, you better be on top of your driving and tuning, and they can be beat. There is no question Jason relaxes on the tree at times, and when he does, YOU cant. They also obviously have a great handle on Pomona in general, and always come out firing.

I'll never insult a team or crew that just out hustles their competition.

Jeggie is a winner and a champion. He wont settle for bridesmaid for long. he knows how to win, and will be good for us Mopar lovers, just give them some time. AJ needs to be on the tree when the opportunity arises. I am sure he knows that as well as anyone. Vincent is a driving machine. He seems to have the power and will do well.

jeggie had line beat with an .005 light but shook the tires in 2nd. like was said before, you have to take advantage when they slip up and thats not often! A.J. is right there in the power dept. always in the top 3-5 in qualifing but seems to miss on the tuneup on sunday. when they get the camaros the other teams should be able to take advantage as it will take a few races to sort out the bugs. i would love to see all 3 mopars in the top 5 at the end of the year.

Re: I smell a cheater - 02/22/12 03:10 AM

I agree with Al. You guys are something else. To get back to the OP, flames in the the headers at the shut off are due to raw fuel igniting in the hot headers after the engine's clicked off. It happens with all the prostocks. Cheating my a$$. Taking advantage of the rules? Probably.
