Since I (and I'm sure many others) know very little about cage and tin work, could you be more specific about what they did wrong?

Thanks

mmm, I don't know about cage and tin work but they took a really nice original 5.0L 5 spd stang and totally hacked it up.

Re: Horsepower Tv on Spike this am. awful cage and tin work - 10/19/08 09:05 PM

It's kind of hard to describe , you would of had to seen the show .

but, the just tinned the WHOLE back seat area, no tub's / nothing .. they skinned the roll bar

The center hoop was bent at 45 degrees on the corners and then they made a star like area of it so you looked like you were in a jail cell

It was all and all --horrible

I did see the show and it looked OK to me but like I said before I'm no expert in cage and tin work.

One thing I thought looked wrong was bringing all the bars together in the center of the cage. It just seemed to to be a bad idea to bring all the stress to that one center point. I could be wrong about that but wouldn't it be better to spread the stress out over a larger area?

Re: Horsepower Tv on Spike this am. awful cage and tin - 10/20/08 04:09 PM

That was a pretty clean lookin' little car before they bastardized it.

Wait 'til it's done. They'll run a couple of passes at the track in the 13 second zone, make excuses about this and that wasn't quite right but if those items were corrected it'd be a 10 second ride, and then push it off into the corner like they've done with other projects.

Remember the joke of a black Nova they built? That was a nice car before the hack job as well. Fortunately someone saved it and had to re-do pretty much everything. The track day with it was a joke.

I agree with you Bigdad.
It was not just a cobbled up mess, it looked like a heavy cobbled up mess.
Why couldn't they get a chassis builder to do it, we might have learned something.

It was done that way so they could have ample room to install the fuel cell backwards!

Haha, If I recall, didn't they pull the same gaffe on the green notchback Barracuda?

We need to start a pool on what the "payoff" will be on the 900hp turbo 'stang.

I'll guess that it'll run 11.60's

...bonus points for the pool if you guess the excuses they have for it not runnin' the numba!

Last show I seen on Spike was the Blown Small block Chevy in the Big Yellow S-10. All aftermarket engine, big heads, blower, duel carbs. First pass it just dipped into the 7's in the 8th mile LOL. I think they done some tuning, and it went mid to low 7's.

Before that I seen the last bit of a show, they was working on a 440 Mopar engine, it had floating bushed wrist pins. They was assembling the engine, and used a big ole Rose Bud torch heating the connecting rod red hot to assemble the pin....Those guys are total tools, its a shame Spike TV and Power block has such douche bags for hosts..

I have not watched that show in ages, but I did like watching them remove and install camshafts.

Clunk, Clunk, Clunk, as they drag the lobes over the cam bearings.

Re: Horsepower Tv on Spike this am. awful cage and tin - 09/06/09 06:43 PM

Those guys are definitely clowns. Watching it now, and the 454 they built made 406HP. Didn't Chevy make 454s with 425HP and 450HP? Great job guys. 40 years of technology, and you managed to loose 44HP compared to stock. They also bought an early Barracuda with a 440 that they improved by removing the big block, and installing a 360 crate. Then there's the 440 they built with Edelbrock heads and intake, something from this sponsor, something from that sponsor... What did they get? 400HP. Great! 10HP over a stock SixPack. Clowns.

Re: Horsepower Tv on Spike this am. awful cage and tin - 09/06/09 06:51 PM

I guess they were trying to build a stock 454. Well, they still built one weaker than stock. They threw a bunch of parts at it, and made 622HP. They did the same with a 460, and made around 600HP, too. Why couldn't they do that to the 440 they built and bragged about?

Re: Horsepower Tv on Spike this am. awful cage and tin - 09/07/09 01:33 AM

At least they get all the "boats" tight in the engines they assemble. And that clown of a machinist they have is something else. Ya ever see the one where they have the 455 on the dyno, and they keep screwing everything up, forget to put one whole side of plug wires on, stabb the distributor wrong like 3 times. Total morons...

I hate it when the blond moron starts talking, He needs to learn how to pronounce BOLTS, everything is boated together with ARP boats.....

Drives me batty

Wasn't the green barracuda the one that they put the fuel cell in back wards.. the sump was facing the front of the car...

I caught part of the BBC build thing after the dyno run they said they were going to do BB Mopar... gee can't wait for the 230hp roller motor they are going to slap together.

No Crap, did you guys see the last budget 440 mopar that those clowns built.
I swear the showed the viewers how to disassemble a Pressed Pin and rod from a stock type piston with a torch...they heated that old LY rod cherry red...I swear as Im taking a breath of air this very second.
The used aggressive NON SR(stock replacement) heads for both the Chevy and Ford engines. They will probably drop the ball and use a set of Eddy RPM's against those other engines...I will be PO'd. The engine needs a set of Indy -1's and the contest...well there wont be no contest..
But leave it to those clowns to screw us up..
Sad thing is I bet Millions upon Millions of young and old viewers really think they know what they are doing.
Sad..very sad..

Why would you backhalf a fox mustang anyway? Like it or not they have one of the best factory suspension designs ever offered. We've got local guys doing 5.20-5.30's in the eight on nothing but bolt-on suspension parts....makes no sense to backhalf it

I quit watching these shows a year or two ago, I didn't like the comment made by the "sheet metal expert". We will go to commercial now and I'll be working ass off while you are working on an ass creese in you couch.
Now that's how to keep people watching..

Re: Horsepower Tv on Spike this am. awful cage and tin work - 09/07/09 05:47 AM

I have a buddy who is a fabricator who used to
work for one of the SOCAL hot rod shops that
they used on TV.

He tells stories about how the "host" would
do work on one side of the project car, then
he would do the other side of the car, then
after the show was filmed he had to "redo" all
the work done by the TV host.....he made good
money for the work, but he said the TV crews
and host made the work not worth the $$.

LMFAO!!!!!

I thought I was the only one who was annoyed by that. I thought maybe it was just some funny southern type accent or something. But then again, I was talking to some girls at Pinks in Seattle and they told me I must be Canadian

The last time they "built" a 440 (the one I was talking about before), they used open chamber Eddys, and were delighted with the massive 400HP they made. Clowns. Their web site sucks. You can't find what you want. They tell you what parts were used in a build, like the 440, and I see a bunch of Chevy parts listed. It's just a site full of ads. The 440 was built for the Musclecar show's UFC 'Cuda. I'll say it again--25HP over stock. WOW!

Put Danica Patrick back on as the guest host and replace them guys with Jessi Combs ( the girl from 4x4 ) and atleast it would be worth watching

For chassis work they need that guy that was on with Boyd.I think his name was Al with the big moustache. One of the reasons he left Boyds was because they wanted to cobble everything together.Every time they built a frame he just shook his head and said thats garbage. He wanted to do it right but they just wanted it quick.Rocky

Yep, they've been supposed to do the "payoff" on the Mustang at the track for some time now. It's mysteriously disappeared from the show without going to the dragstrip...
